COLDSPRING — The first scrimmage for the Trojans on Friday answered a lot of questions and spotlighted a few problems to work on in the coming weeks.

Squaring off against the Lumberton Raiders, which dropped from a 5A school to a 4A division 1 team this year, proved to be a good scrimmage. The Raiders are picked to win their district and showed why.

The first play from scrimmage was a TD pass from the Raiders and found the Trojans looking to fix a few problems in its pass coverage. As the evening wore on, the Trojan defense came alive, but there are still several holes to fix.

Trojans QB Luke Monroe said the team had a good practice this week, and the coaches had the team looking at a lot of game films to help them prepare for the Raiders.

Next week will be another scrimmage that will test the Trojans, as they will face East Chambers in the second scrimmage of the season.

COLDSPRING — The Coldspring Trojans had their first intersquad scrimmage on Saturday and all the signs looked good for another great season.

Head Coach Ken Stanley said his team is getting ready and had a great first week.

“We had a few simple mistakes but are working on fixing them,” he said. “The team looked very nice and in good shape for the new season.”
Lumberton will be the first challenge in a team scrimmage next week, and Stanley said that since he was having trouble finding teams to scrimmage, it was time to take the next step and challenge some 4A teams.

“The offense and defense looked very good and will be able to put up good numbers in the up and coming year,” he said.

In the meantime, the Lady Trojans hopped over to Houston County for a four-way scrimmage with Rusk, Crockett and Grapeland.

Coldspring will be back in Crockett on Sept. 9 for the District 23-3A opener.

COLDSPRING — The COCISD Trojans took the time to pass along their knowledge of America’s Pastime during a recent camp.
Head Coach Austin Riddell said the camp serves as an instructional league for the athletes, as well as a way to start building a new generation of players for the school.

It was the third baseball camp, the first after a hiatus due to COVID, and Riddell said it is going to be an annual occurrence.
Around 40 athletes signed up to come and more was expected; the Trojan baseball team, along with several high school coaches, were the instructors.
