Lady Jackets, Yellowjackets soldier on

The Lady Jackets came up short on Monday in Woden for their first district game of the season. Lily Read had the only hit of the game with a triple. Kinsley Barnes was in the circle surrendering six hits, eight runs, one strike out and five walks. The game ended in the fifth inning with a score of 10-0. Due to a rain out on Friday the Lady Jackets have three games this week playing Brookland on Monday, March 11, home game vs Broaddus on Tuesday March 12, and then travel to West Sabine on Friday March 15 with game time starting at 5 p.m. 

The Yellowjacket baseball team also started off district this week with a 15-4 win vs San Augustine. Will Thomason led things off on the mound for the Jackets. The starting pitcher gave up two hits, three runs, three strikeouts, and three runs over two innings. Bradley Davison came in as relief and earned the win giving up one hit, one run, and four strikeouts. The Jackets piled up 14 hits in the game. Turner Johnson led with three hits in five at bats. Cutter Lowe led RBI’s with 3 and went two for five on the day. Rex Gilzow, Jesse Bittick, Jaxon Gay, and Waylon Sturrock each collected multiple hits. 

At the end of the week the Jackets hosted a three-day tournament and picked up wins against Spurger 18-2, Slocum 13-3, and Kennard 8-4. The Jackets fell short to Neches 3-5 and Martinsville 3-5. Over five games the Jackets racked up 39 hits, 37 RBI’s, and 45 runs. Seven pitchers were utilized, striking out 30, walking 19, and giving up 19 runs. This week they continue district play vs Broaddus early in the week and then travel to West Sabine on Friday March 15, with game time starting at 6 p.m.
