Lady Jackets take on Spurger Lady Pirates

It was another busy week for the Yellowjacket softball and baseball teams. Tuesday Feb. 27, the Lady Jackets hosted their first home game of the season against the Spurger Lady Pirates. Lauren Citrano had a big day at the plate going three for three with a triple and two doubles. Ty Cochran and Kinsley Barnes each had triples while Lily Payne, Emma Byrd, Allie Ogden, Sydney Brock, and Kinsley Barnes each picked up hits. Kinsley Barnes earned the win in the circle giving up one hit, zero runs, four strikeouts and two walks. The Lady Jackets defeated the Lady Pirates 15-0 in a three-inning run rule. Thursday Feb. 29 through Saturday, March 2 the Lady Jackets participated in the Blues Brothers Tournament hosted in Nacogdoches. They picked up an 8-1 win against Garrison but fell short to Joaquin, Alto, Mt. Enterprise, Center, and Cayuga. The Lady Jackets start district play on Monday March 4 at Woden. On Friday, March 8 the Lady Jackets will travel to Brookeland with first pitch scheduled for 5pm. 

On Monday Feb. 26 the JV Yellowjacket squad defeated Deweyville 8-4. Kasen Citrano earned the win giving up zero hits, three runs, five strikeouts, and four walks. Braysen Neal had two hits and two RBI’s in two plate appearances. Bryson Swanson had two stolen bases. At the end of the week the JV squad played in the Central Pollock tournament picking up losses against Central, Livingston Freshman, and New Waverly. 

The varsity Yellowjackets played Deweyville on Feb. 26 winning 14-4. Turner Johnson drew three walks and hit an inside the park homerun scoring three runs. Rex Gilzow, Jaxon Gay, Jayse Gay, Cutter Lowe, Bryson Swanson, and Jesse Bittick each had hits. Gilzow had three RBI’s while Jaxon Gay and Bryson Swanson ended with one each. Bradley Davison earned the win on the hill allowing zero hits, two runs, three strikeouts, and three walks. At the end of the week the Jackets participated in the Latexo Tournament losing to Neches and Dawson and picking up wins against Apple Springs 10-4 and Latexo 8-5. Jesse Bittick earned the win on the mound vs Apple Springs and Waylon Sturrock earned the win against Latexo.  This week the Jackets will host their own tournament on March 7-9. Teams participating are Slocum, Neches, Latexo, Martinsville, Wells, Colmesneil, Kennard, and Spurger. The Alex Johnson Memorial concession stand will have the grill fired up cooking the best hamburgers you can find at a baseball complex.
