Both the Chester girls’ and boys’ basketball teams finished their respective seasons this past week.

The Lady Jackets faced Neches in the Bi-District round of playoffs and came up short.

The Yellowjacket boys basketball team played Zavalla for a chance at fourth place to enter into playoffs. The Yellowjackets were ahead for the first half but then came up short in the second half, ending their season. 

Friday, Feb. 16, the Lady Jacket softball team traveled to Corrigan to face the Lady Bulldogs. Kinsley Barnes collected four hits in four at bats. Barnes, in the pitching circle, earned the 8-4 win for the Lady Jackets giving up four hits and two runs over four innings, striking out one and walking two. Freshman Allie Ogden made several plays from third base and also came in as relief for Barnes. Lauren Citrano collected two hits. Citrano, at shortstop, also assisted in a double play with Emma Byrd at second and Lily Payne at first.

The Lady Jackets will travel to Huntington on Friday, Feb. 23 with game time at 5 p.m. On Saturday Feb. 24, they will go back to Corrigan for a one day tournament. They will face Slocum at 9 a.m., Big Sandy at 12 p.m., and Grapeland at 1:30 p.m. 

This week the Yellowjacket baseball team begins their season. They travel to Woden on Thursday, Feb. 22 to participate in a three-day tournament.

On Thursday they face Douglass at 1 p.m. and Gary at 3 p.m. Friday they will play San Augustine at 3 p.m. Saturday games and opponents are TBA.

The JV baseball team will also participate in a tournament in Onalaska on Saturday Feb. 24. They will play Tarkington at 10:15 a.m. and Coldspring at noon.
