‘Jackets beat Goodrich Hornets

CHESTER – The Chester JV and varsity boys teams traveled to High Island to take on the Cardinals.

JV started the evening off with a very close back and forth battle. Braysen Neal led with 11 points, Bryson Swanson had seven and Jayse Gay ended with six. The Jackets lost by three points. Varsity also played a close game but ended up winning by three with a score of 43-40. Jesse Bittick was high point with 16, Hunter Luther had six, PJ Purvis, Jaxon Gay, Cutter Lowe, and Kasen Citrano each had four. Turner Johnson ended with three, and Brad Davison contributed with two. The Lady Jackets did not play due to High Island not having a girls team.

On Friday the Jackets hosted the Hornets from Goodrich. The Lady Jackets started the night with a win 52-36. This was the Lady Jackets second win against Goodrich in district for the season. Sydney Brock led with 13 points, 15 rebounds, six steals. Abby Grimes and Kyli Handley had nine points each, Ty Cochran had eight points with 12 rebounds, Saydi Handley had six points, Bailey Hight and Blakeney Whitworth contributed with two points each.

The varsity boys also defeated the Hornets, 38-32. Kasen Citrano led the night with 15 points, PJ Purvis had six, Turner Johnson and Jesse Bittick had five each, Brad Davison had 4, Jaxon Gay ended with two, and Cutter Lowe contributed with one free throw. This week the Yellowjackets will travel to Zavalla on Tuesday and host Brookeland on Friday, Feb. 2, with JV boys tipping off at 5 p.m.
