Yellowjackets take on Wildcats

This week the Yellowjacket basketball teams traveled to Brookeland to take on the Wildcats in a district game. For the girls, Sydney Brock scored 11, had 10 rebounds and four steals, Kyli Handley scored four points, and had four rebounds, Ty Cochran scored three and led in rebounds with 12. Abby Grimes and Saydi Handley each contributed with two points. Despite their efforts the Lady Jackets lost 22-54. The boys also lost against a very fast and skilled Brookeland team. Kasen Citrano led with 15 points, Jesse Bittick was right behind with 14, Hunter Luther followed with 7, Turner Johnson had 5, Brad Davison ended with 4, PJ Purvis and Cutter Lowe contributed with 3 and 2 points respectively. 

On Friday night the Jackets each had a better outcome vs Burkeville with the girls winning 34-11 and the boys winning 65-58. Kyli Handley led the night for the girls with 13 points and 5 steals, Emma Byrd had 7 points, Sydney Brock had six points with 10 rebounds and seven steals, Bailey Hight had 4 points, Ty Cochran and Abby Grimes each had two points. 

The boys ended the night with a thriller that was close the entire game. Jesse Bittick led with 19 points, Kasen Citrano had 12, Jaxon Gay and Cutter Lowe each had 8, Turner Johnson had seven, PJ Purvis had six, Brad Davison with three, and Hunter Luther ended with two. 

This week the Jackets will travel to Spurger on Tuesday. On Friday they will host Leggett at JP Johnson Gymnasium with girls tipping off at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday the JV boys will participate in the Brookeland tournament and junior high boys and girls’ teams will participate in the Burkeville tournament with times TBA.
