The Lady Jackets took care of business on Thursday against the North Zulch Lady Bulldogs in the Area round of post season play. The Lady Jackets scored first on a serve receive after a short rally and stayed ahead the entirety of the match. 

They won in three straight sets with scores of 25-10, 25-9, and 25-10. Lily Read led in kills with 20, she also had 24 digs. Sydney Brock led the defense with 25 digs, 7 service receptions, and led in aces with 3. Emma Byrd had a pair of aces, 11 digs, and led assists with 31. Marae Pounds had a good night on the net with 4 big blocks. Pounds also had 5 kills, 4 digs, 1 ace and 1 assist. Lauren Citrano contributed with 16 digs, five kills, two aces. Kinsley Barnes ended the night with four kills, two digs, one ace.

The next round for Lady Jackets is Regional Quarterfinals and that game will be played Tuesday, Nov. 7 in Splendora at 6 p.m. vs the #2 ranked Round Top-Carmine Cubettes. 


‘Jackets in playoffs

The Yellowjacket football team clinched a spot in the playoffs by defeating High Island 68-43.

The Jackets led from the very beginning starting off with Bryson Swanson returning the first kick of the night about 60 yards and then Jesse Bittick took a handoff into the end zone for the first score of the night. As soon as the Cardinals were on offense Kasen Citrano caught an interception. Trayce Knox then threw to Keighen Green for the second touchdown in the first quarter.

At the end of the first half the score was 41 to 12. Keighen Green had eight carries for 90 yards with 3 touchdowns and 2 touchdowns on two catches. Jesse Bittick had eight carries for 95 yards with one touchdown, two catches, and 7 tackles. Trayce Knox went 7 for 12, 97 yards, two touchdowns, one carry and two tackles. Kasen Citrano had 2 catches for 25 yards, an interception, and 2 tackles. Zach Redwine had three catches, two tackles and one interception. Kevron Green had a 55-yard kick return for touchdown, one carry, four tackles, and one play broken up. Jayse Gay had three carries for 39 yards, one touchdown, and four tackles.

Bryson Swanson had a 55-yard kick return for touchdown and two carries. Blake Zulpo had two tackles, two catches for 18 yards with 1 touchdown. Turner Johnson went 2 for 3 with 1 touchdown, 1 carry, and a play broken up. Waylon Sturrock contributed with an interception, 3 tackles, and a broken play. The Yellowjackets will face the Medina Bobcats for the Bi-District title. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 at Allen Academy in Bryan.
