Lady Jacket volleyball clinched an undefeated district championship with an easy sweep of Leggett on Tuesday. Scores were 25-4, 25-2, and 25-3. Lily Read had 10 kills, Lauren Citrano had nine kills and Kinsley Barnes had seven kills. Emma Byrd led in assists with 29 and also had 10 aces. Lauren Citrano led in aces with 13.

The Lady Jackets traveled to Garrison for a warm-up game to prepare for the upcoming playoff season. The Lady Bulldogs put up more of a fight than the Lady Jackets have seen in district, taking the Jackets to four sets. The Lady Jackets won the first 2 sets 25-16 and 25-23.

The Lady Bulldogs won the third set 23-25. The fourth and final set of the night went to the Lady Jackets 25-20. Marae Pounds had a good night on the net with six blocks, she also had five kills and two aces. Emma Byrd had a pair of aces on 20 serves with no errors, and 41 assists.

Sydney Brock had two aces with 39 digs and 32 service receptions. Lily Read led in attacks with 24 kills and had 28 digs, 24 service receptions. Kinsley Barnes ended the night with 14 kills, eight digs. The Lady Jackets will play for the Area Championship on Thursday Nov. 2, at Crockett High School beginning at 6 p.m. They will play the winner of the Bi-District round out of McDade or North Zulch.

‘Jackets take on Leveretts Chapel

The Yellowjacket football team traveled to Leveretts Chapel on Friday night for a chance at a district championship. The Yellowjackets competed for four full quarters but ultimately came up short in a high scoring game of 98-66. Keighen Green had 11 carries for 130 yards with three touchdowns. Trayce Knox went six for 12, 68 yards, two touchdowns, one interception, four carries for three yards, and six tackles.

Jesse Bittick had 10 carries for 43 yards and eight tackles. Jaxon Gay in his first game of the season after injury had eight carries for 111 yards, three touchdowns, three tackles, and a play break up. Kasen Citrano had two catches for 12 yards, a touchdown from interception, and a tackle.

Zach Redwine had two catches for 33 yards, one touchdown, two tackles, and a broken play. PJ Purvis helped on defense with four tackles and broke two plays. Cutter Lowe had three catches for 26 yards and one touchdown. Jayse Gay and Bryson Swanson each had one carry and one assist. Turner Johnson went one for one with three yards. Rex Gilzow and Blake Zulpo pitched in on a couple of tackles each.

The Yellowjackets travel to High Island this week to try and clinch a playoff spot. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The junior high team will also play in High Island before the varsity game.
