The Lady Jackets completed their first round of district play this week, not losing a set.  Tuesday they swept Goodrich in three sets with scores of 25-10, 25-8, and 25-10. Lily Read led in kills with 18. Read also had four digs and 5 service receptions.

Emma Byrd led in assists with 41, she also had one ace, one dig, and two kills. Sydney Brock led defense with 13 digs and eight service receptions. Brock also led in aces with five. Marae Pounds had a good night with nine kills, three aces, and five digs. Kinsley Barnes had eight kills. Lauren Citrano ended the game with seven kills; four aces; five digs and four service receptions. 

On Friday the Lady Jackets traveled to Leggett ending the first round of district. They made quick work of the Lady Pirates with scores of 25-1, 25-10, 25-4. The Lady Pirates served first scoring their only point. The Lady Jackets took possession with Emma Byrd serving first for and staying on the serving line for 24 points ending the first set. Byrd ended up with 24 aces, 26 assists, and two kills over three sets. Senior Kinsley Barnes had a good night on the serving line with 10 aces. Barnes also led in kills with 13 and had two digs on defense. Lauren Citrano had six kills, six service receptions, and two digs. Marae Pounds had four kills on four attempts. Kyli Handley stepped in as Libero for this match and led in digs with seven and had five service receptions. Sydney Brock and Lily Payne each had two kills. Payne also added two digs. 

Overall, Coach Tonnies is pleased with her team adding that it is hard to slow the game down when you are used to a certain level of competition. She has given the team goals each match and they have done well with trying to stay focused to meet the goals. The Lady Jackets travel to Burkeville this week and will host High Island at home on Friday, Oct. 13 with game time starting at 4:30 p.m. 

‘Jackets readying for homecoming

The Yellowjacket football team had a Bye this week due to the county fair. They will host a Christian private school, Tyler HEAT, for homecoming on Friday, Oct. 13, with kickoff at 7 p.m.

HEAT is an acronym for “He Enables All Things.” Homecoming festivities will take place at halftime of this game where a new Homecoming Queen will be crowned.

The Homecoming Court is composed of Children of The Court Jackson Walker, Hadleigh Butter, Tucker Knight, Macie Whitworth, all from the Kindergarten class. Freshman Duchess and Escort are Ty Cochran and Braylen Knox. Sophomore Duchess Lauren Citrano and Escort Jaxon Gay. Junior Duchess Lily Read and Escort Cutter Lowe. Senior Princesses are Kinsley Barnes and Escort Bradley Davison, Koree Hilliard with Escort Keighen Green, and Meghan Wright with Escort Anthony Phillips, Jr.

The high school student body votes for one senior girl to win the Queen title. Reigning Queen Alyssa White will crown the new Queen. Coach Butter and Coach Hicks look forward to seeing a big crowd for the homecoming game.
