The Yellowjacket football team traveled to Bryan, which was a halfway point for their opponents, the Richland Springs Coyotes. The Yellowjackets knew that the Coyotes being ranked seventh in the state would make it a tough game.

It was evident that the Coyotes did their homework studying the Yellowjacket offense and stopped them quickly on each play. The Yellowjackets did manage to hold off the defense long enough for Trayce Knox to hand off to Keighen Green for a 20-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Jesse Bittick, Gus David, Cutter Lowe and PJ Purvis all contributed on defense trying to slow down the Richland offense. The game ultimately ended by mercy rule at halftime 6-52.

On Saturday, Sept 23 the Yellowjackets play Emery Weiner with kickoff at 6 p.m. at Aubry Bradley Stadium.

Lady Jackets come out ontop against Diboll

The Lady Jackets met up with the Diboll Lady Jacks for the second time this season. The first game of the season Diboll swept the Lady Jackets in Diboll. The Lady Jacks may have expected the same outcome this game, but the Lady Jackets had already decided they were not going down the same way they did previously. Emma Byrd led the team in digs with 18, assists with 32, aces with six and also had three kills.

Lily Read led in kills with 19, she also had 14 digs and led in blocks with four. Kinsley Barnes had 12 kills and three digs. Sydney Brock finished the game with 16 digs, three assists, and one ace. Marae Pounds had three kills, four digs, two aces, and two blocks. Abby Grimes had 7 digs and one ace. The Lady Jackets beat the 3A Diboll Lady Jacks three sets to 1 25-15, 25-9, 20-25, 25-14. The Lady Jackets start district this week facing the Burkeville Lady Mustangs on September 22 at home starting at 4:30pm. The junior high Lady Jackets will play in the Groveton tournament on Sept 23 with a team in each of the two brackets. Coach Tonnies would love for all of our fans to come out and watch both undefeated Junior High teams.
