Eagles, Indians head to postseason

AppleSprintsISDTRINIDAD — Despite a loss in the last game of the season, the Apple Springs Eagles will head to the playoffs.

The Eagles were downed by Trinidad 53-48 on Friday. Still, they will play Bynum on Friday at Allen Academy in Bryan.

Additionally, Dakota Campbell crossed the 2,000-yard mark for the season after Friday’s efforts, completing 14 of 23 passes for 304 yards five touchdowns, as well as rushing rushing for 32 yards on three carries.

Also on offense, Zeth Dugat caught 2 passes for 105 yards and 2 TDs and ran for 58 yards on 7 carries and 2 more TDs; Ryan Phillips rushed for 8 yards and caught 2 passes for 48 yards; Bradyn Kaufman had 4 carries for 16 yards and caught 6 passes for 64 yards and a TD; and Connor Kaufman caught 2 passes for 86 yards and 2 TDs.

On defense, Dugat had 11 tackles; Bradyn Kaufman had 12 tackles and an interception; Andre Pion had nine tackles and a fumble recovery; and Noah Thompson had 24 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Groveton

The Indians won their final regular season game on Friday, stopping the West Hardin Oilers 41-6.

Groveton moves on to the postseason against Shelbyville. The game is set for 7 p.m. Thursday in Nacogdoches.

Against the Oilers, Tanner Steubing completed 4 of 10 passes for 33 yards, while Dax Parker completed 3 of 6 for 18 yards.

For receivers, Jacob Alexander had 2 catches for 33 yards; Billy Thomas had 2 catches for 12 yards; Darius McQueen had 1 catch for 8 yards; Bryon Thomas had 1 catch for 6 yards; and Jackson Cathey had 1 catch for 2 yards.

On the ground, Bryon Thomas had 7 carries for 176 yards and 4 TDs; Darius McQueen had 5 carries for 56 yards; Tanner Steubing had 3 carries for 63 yards; Ramello Wolfe had 3 carries for 31 yards and 1 TD; Jackson Cathey had 2 carries for 12 yards; Wyatt Snead had 1 carry for 30 yards; Keeghan Guerra had 2 carries for 10 yards; and Gunner Wilson had 1 carry for 10 yards.

On defense, Trystan Ard had 7 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 fumble recovery; Brody Thorton had 6 tackles; Dation Chandler had 6 tackles; Gunner Wilson had 6 tackles; Logan Townsend had 3 tackles, 1 tackle for loss; Wyatt Snead had 2 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 caused fumble; Phoenix Bowman had 2 tackles; Tanner Steubing had 2 tackles; Carter Cox had 1 tackle, 1 tackle for loss; Saint Reyes had 1 tackle; Landon Conley had 1 tackle; Armando Bautista had 1 tackle; and Ty Torregrossa had 1 tackle.

Trinity

The Trinity Tigers lost 58-6 in their final game of the season.
