GROVETON — The Groveton Indians put their record at 2-2 with a 23-8 win over the Grapeland Sandies on Friday.
Groveton’s offense was an intense ground game, punctuated with the occasional pass, led by Bryon Thomas and Tanner Steubing.
Steubing went 4-of-8 for 34 yards passing, while Thomas had 5 catches for 34 yards
On the ground, Thomas had 25 carries for 234 yards 3 TDs; Steubing had 11 carries for 11 yards; Wyatt Snead had 3 carries for 43 yards; Jackson Cathey had 2 carries for 16 yards; and Phoenix Bowman had 3 carries for 1 yard.
On defense, Daiton Chandler had 7 tackles, 2 passes broken up, 1 safety; Snead had 5 tackles, 1 interception; Steubing had 5 tackles; Logan Townsend had 3 tackles, 1 sack; Gunner Wilson had 3 tackles; Tristan Ard had 3 tackles; Thomas had 2 tackles, 1 pass broken up; Bowman had 2 tackles, 1 pass broken up; Cathey had 2 tackles; Carter Cox had 2 tackles; Darius McQueen had 1 tackle; Armando Bautista had 1 tackle; and Brody Thorton had 1 tackle.
WEST SABINE — The Trinity Tigers were blanked by West Sabine 44-0 on Friday.
The misfortunes of the Tigers continued throughout the first half. West Sabine was able to control the pace of the game by a steady dose of running and scoring seemingly. The Tiger offense did not get on track and committed three first half fumbles that resulted in touchdowns for West Sabine.
The Tigers went in for halftime facing a 44-0 deficit.
The second half saw the Tigers defense hold West Sabine to no scores, but the offense still struggled to move the ball and the Tigers fell to 0-4 for the non-district portion of the season.
After the game the coaches stressed the need for a better effort and execution.
The Tigers return home Friday to begin district play against the Hemphill Hornets. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Eagles outclassed Tyler Heat by a score of 48-0 on Friday.
On offense, Dakota Campbell threw 12-of-19 for 230 yards and 6 TDs, while Zeth Dugat hauled in 5 of 8 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown; Hunter Davis caught 3 of 4 for 76 yards and 2 TDs; Connor Kaufman caught 1 pass for a 40-yard TD; Ethan LeBlanc caught 2 passes for 15 yards and a TD; and Ryan Phillips pulled in a 3-yard pass for a score.
On the ground, Davis had 2 carries for 15 yards; Campbell had 2 runs for 14 yards and a TD; Dugat had 1 run for 9 yards; and Ryan Davis added an 8-yard run.
On defense, Andrew Pion had 6 tackles, caused and recovered a fumble, and an interception for a TD; Ethan Randell had 4 tackles, 1 interception; Noah Thompson had 12 tackles; Tanner Smith had 5 tackles; Ryan Davis had 5 tackles; Carter Anthony had 4 tackles; Ryan Phillips had 3 tackles; Drake Pierce had 3 tackles; and Dewaine Parker had 2 tackles.
