GROVETON — The price of storing prisoners for the county has increased.

At its meeting on Dec. 12, Trinity County Commissioners Court approved an agreement with the Houston County Sheriff’s Office for inmate detention.

According to the contract, the new cost will be $75 per inmate per day, which is an increase from the current $35. The reason stated was “circumstances beyond our control.”

At a previous meeting, the court was told the county was $450,000 over budget in the last fiscal year, which largely was due to the costs associated with housing prisoners in jails in Houston and San Jacinto counties.

In other business, the county:

•approved bond renewals for Rebecca Cockrell, Brian McMullen, Leonor Martinez and Linda Adamick;

•approved a personnel action form for Felicia Chachere;

•approved an agreement with Choice Partners and the Harris County Department of Education for purchases;

•approved extending loan agreements with Cadence Bank for the purchase of trucks for the Road and Bridge departments;

•gave approval for the District Clerk’s Office to accept credit card payments; and

•approved an agreement with the city of Trinity allowing Precinct 3 to provide maintenance services.
