Meetings, events ramp up in fall

From all the Facebook pictures shown over the weekend, the back-to-school activities were a huge hit. By the time you receive this issue, school will be started, and it is at this point I must warn you to watch out for the yellow school buses.
You must stop whenever they stop or risk getting a hefty fine. I read somewhere that cameras are being installed on the old and new buses to record cars’ license plate numbers that are not stopping and obeying the school bus safety laws. These laws are to protect our children not criminals, so slow down and live a little.
•I am a decent person, but it is hard not to pray for rain and to not ask for a hurricane. Ten years ago, 95 degrees in late July or early August was a record breaker, but this heat wave everywhere now is ridiculous. Some people have complained about the new school schedule that has been changed to a four-day week, but if this temperature is going to become the norm, I say start school Oct. 1, and end on May 1, of each year. (Just kidding or not.)
•For these past few weeks, I have been listing different churches, schools, and organizational activities until the end of the year, but this week I will list only the next 60 days. For instance, Labor Day, Homecoming for TISD, Trinity Community Fair, VFW fundraisers, dinners, and city events. So here goes the hot times in Trinity town for this period.
•Aug. 14, Trinity FFA meeting 6:30 p.m. Cafeteria High School
•Aug. 19, Lone Star Missionary Baptist Church Youth Party at 5 p.m.
•Aug. 20, 11 a.m. Knights pancake breakfast
•Aug. 22, homecoming senior overalls and mums crafting time. Blanche K. Werner Public Library, 4:30-6 p.m. Bring your supplies and let them help you make your mum and/or senior overalls. Donations welcome. For more information, call Sophie at (936) 594-2087.
•Sept. 1, second annual Tailgate Party at Tiger Stadium — details later.
•Sept. 2, VFW Hall, noon Saturday, Eddie & Maxie Dance.
•Sept. 4, Monday, Labor Day Holiday.
•Sept. 5, Senior Sunrise, 6:30 a.m. at Tiger Stadium. Call Ms. Coleman for details and what items you can bring to this event.
•Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church’s Knights of Columbus will host their quarterly blood drive in the Brookshire Brothers Parking in Sept. I did not have a date and time before press time. Sorry.
•Saturday, Sept. 16, from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m., Trinity County Memorial Post 6899 Auxiliary is hosting a fundraiser. The VFW fundraiser will be held at the VFW Hall located at 400 W. Caroline St. in the VFW Hall. This is a very important and necessary event to fund veterans’ bingo games which in turn benefit the veterans and their families. More details about this next week.
•The Trinity Community Fair Association is hosting the 74th annual fair and livestock show Sept. 21-23. The carnival opens on that Friday, and the TISD students have a holiday on that day to present their animals and school projects. For more information, contact Jolie Lane at (936) 662-5082.
•Oct. 15, Saturday, MHTCC Bingo and Fall Festival, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 401 Prospect Drive. Bingo prizes include a $2,000 gift card for first, $1,000 gift card for second, a 65-inch TV for third, a $500 gift card for fourth and a 22-inch Blackstone griddle.

•Saturday, Oct. 21, the Trinity Volunteer Fire Department is hosting an East Texas District Meeting and Training session. For more information, contact Keith Johnson at (936) 662-3916.
•Also, on Saturday, Oct. 21, the SAAFE House 13th Annual Denim to Diamonds Purse Bingo will be held at the Trinity Community Center, located next to McDonalds, with the doors opening at 5 p.m. Please call Tammy Farkas at (936) 291-3529 for more information.
•Friday, October 27, is a teacher and student holiday.
•Tuesday, October 31, is Halloween Night & “Treats on the Street”.

•I don’t know if Trinity Methodist Church is hosting a dinner with friends this month, but I will find out before next week.
•Now for some business news.
There is a new Trinity RX Pharmacy in town, located at the old Alco Shopping Center next to the DAIQ Shop. The office
hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The new pharmacy offers vaccinations, medication therapy management, free blood pressure screening, and 24-hour Pharma-
cist

Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce has invited Circuit Physical Therapy business to join the chamber and the Trinity Lions Club organization. They are very family and community orientated. Trinity has another home health care business that services our area. However, their offices are located in Huntsville at 284 Interstate 45 South. Consider the Lilies Home Care Inc. can be reached at (936) 294-0900. The services offered for seniors are respite care, personal care assistance, sitters/companions, home health aides and live-ins.
Service areas include Polk, San Jacinto, Madison, Harris, Walker, and Montgomerycounties.
•New businesses in town are the Vape Shop across from McDonald’s, Archies Smoke House on Madison Street, and the Wellness Center downtown on Robb Street. More changes are coming downtown. The Faithfully Southern Nutrition Shop has a new location in Hortman’s Country Store on Railroad Street.
Goodwill Industries seems to be flourishing, and the Family Dollar Store has a new re-surfaced parking lot. I hear that the Dollar Store near Higginbotham’s is going to have more food and produce items to sell, and Brookshire Brothers #23 is open now until 10 p.m. every day. See you in town.
