SHEPHERD — Friday found Hagan Adams toeing the rubber against Big Sandy in a non-district matchup, one that gave the Pirates a 9-4 win.

Coach Anthony Trevino said, “It was a good rebound for us. Hagan Adams got a chance to show his stuff and did a great job on the mound.”

The team looked very good all around. Tristen Cullum, during the second inning, with count 0-2, punched a ball that lacked 2 feet of going out of the park.

During the first inning, Landen Dellinger legged out a triple, and with an infield hit he dove into home plate for the first run of the game. The Pirates posted 3 runs in the third inning and then 2 in the fourth, ending with 9 runs to Big Sandy’s 4.

The Trojans snuck by New Waverly 6-5 on March 5 in front of the home-town crowd.

Luke Monroe hand mound duty, striking out 3 while giving up 8 hits.

Coach Austin Riddell said, “We are a very young team, starting only one senior this year. It will be an interesting season. You can expect to see a lot of Monroe on the mound this year, as well as Nolan Beaver and Jordan Ash as the third reliever. Our speed will be our asset, and offensively Brennan Headley will be our anchor in the lineup, in the third position followed by Jordan Ash, a promising young talent.”

Monroe cracked off two hits on offense, and Headley chipped in a triple.
