Area hoops gain all-district nods

Players from both Shepherd and Coldspring-Oakhurst basketball squads were named to the 22-3A all-district team.

For the Shepherd Pirates, players named to the first team were Tristen Cullum and Payton Burton, and Braydon Mettlen was named to the second team.

Newcomer of the Year honors went to Brayden White.

Honorable mentions went to Darrian Matthews and Rogelio Covarrubias.

For the Trojans, Eric Sykes was named to the first team, while K.J. Harden, Jacorrion Jackson and Bryan Douglas were named to the second team.

Luke Monroe was named Offensive MVP.

Honorable mentions went to Karvar Hays and Josh Brimley, and Malachi O’Bryant was named to Academic All-District.
