SHEPHERD — The Shepherd Pirates lost 35-21 to the Orangefield Bobcats on Friday.

The game was a good learning experience, as the defense held the Bobcats to only a two-touchdown lead.

With only 8:35 on the clock in the first quarter the Bobcats punched the first score across the goal line. A fumble and recovery by the Bobcats at 6:06 on the clock put the second score of the night on the scoreboard for Orangefield, 14-0.

The second quarter was favorable to the Pirates as they put up 14 points to tie the game. However, the Bobcats managed to squeeze in one more TD before the half, making the score 21-14.

Shepherd received the ball at the opening of the second half, and the Pirates posted one more score to again tie the game. Orangefield responded with two additional scores and the win in the fourth.

The Pirates posted 190 yards of offense. Landen Dellinger had 17 carries for 125 yards and 2 TDs, as well as one TD passing. Braydon Mettlen pulled in two passes for 1 TD.

The Pirates head to Hempstead on Friday the next non-district game.

Coldspring

The Trojans were downed by Hamshire-Fannett 30-8 on Friday.

Coldspring’s lone score came in the second on a 4-yard run with a 2-point conversion.

The Trojans put up 230 yards of total offense, 28 in the air.
