COLDSPRING — The San Jacinto County Commissioners Court gave permission to Peach Creek Timber/Environmental to clear brush from the county right of way.

The item was discussed at the county’s Wednesday meeting.

The clearing is necessary as Peach Creek, which is planning to construct a landfill in the western part of the county, plans road construction in the area to accommodate the weight of trash trucks.

Peach Creek LLC filed a permit application with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in 2019, for the landfill, a process that has not yet been completed.

Area landowners petitioned the state, as well as the Commissioners Court, to ban the landfill, stating it would be a detriment to the health and welfare of the residents, to Sam Houston National Forest, and the route trash trucks would take to access the landfill were not rated for heavy loads.

The county previously had granted permission to the company to beef up Fostoria Tram Road; it approved brush clearing, and Commissioner David Brandon was directed to oversee the project as the road was in his precinct.

In other business, the county:

•approved an interlocal agreement with the city of Point Blank for road maintenance at $500 per month;

•approved an agreement with Kelly Hoot for the disposal of dirt and debris;

•approved a final plat for Live Water Farms;

•appointed Brian Mays to the San Jacinto County Emergency Management

•renewed an agreement with WorkForce Solutions for four interns to work at the county;

•approved the use of the Courthouse Square for a Christian motorcycle rally for Broken Clay Fellowship;

•approved a plat amendment for Evergreen Baptist Church; and

•approved a minor plat for Raul Diaz for creating four lots on Brown Road.
