Onalaska Wildcat seniors Lucas Jackson and Grant Thornton have decided to continue their baseball career at the collegiate level next year. Jackson will attend Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Thornton at Arlington Baptist University in north Texas.

The middle infield pair were vital parts of the Wildcats’ breakout 2023 season, finishing with Onalaska’s best record in school history, placing second in district, and earning the first ever playoff win for the baseball program.

“I couldn’t be prouder of these two young men,” Onalaska head baseball coach Cody Pinkert said. “Not only are they good ball players, they are good human beings too. What makes these two stand out from the others is their work ethic. They were the first to practice and the last to leave.”

Jackson has been the Wildcats’ starting shortstop since he was a sophomore. He was voted the baseball district defensive MVP in 2023, 2022-2023 first team all-district in basketball, 2022-2023 baseball and basketball academic all-district, and Male Wildcat Athlete of the Year for 2023.

This will be Thornton’s third year as the starting second baseman for the Wildcats. He received all-district honorable mention in 2022, first team all-district in 2023, and the 2023 Male Heart of Wildcat award winner.
