The Polk County Retired Teachers Association honored Onalaska ISD at its February meeting. OISD Superintendent Anthony Roberts was the guest speaker, giving an overview of the growth the district has experienced in the last few years and how OISD has met the needs of the growing number of students in the district. He also spoke about the programs that have made a positive impact on students. In addition to Roberts’ presentation, PCRTA presented a grant to OISD First Grade Math/Science teacher Elizabeth Cain for the purchase of robotics kits for her classroom. PCRTA is proud to support active teachers as they endeavor to provide a quality education for their students. Additionally, Onalaska Elementary School Librarian Julie Crockett received a check to be spent on needs in the library and Diane Whited, Children’s Book Project Committee Chairwoman, presented Crockett with books so that every kindergarten and first grade student in OISD will receive a book. The Children’s Book Project is a statewide project of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. This project is to promote the love of reading in young students.
