A Corrigan man drowned Wednesday while attempting to retrieve items from his vehicle that was one of multiple vehicles in high water near the Piney Creek Road area, Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace said.

The body of Roy Beauchamp, 74, was found in swift water around midnight and retrieved, Wallace said.

The sheriff’s office received a 911 call from someone reporting multiple vehicles stranded in high water near Piney Creek Road, Wallace said.

“It was quickly learned that a 74-year-old male from Corrigan, Texas, was missing after attempting to return to his vehicle to retrieve some items,” he said, adding that several agencies joined in the search for the missing man.

“Our prayers go out to the family of Mr. Beauchamp,” Wallace said.

Funeral services for Beauchamp are slated for 2 p.m. Jan. 30 at the First Baptist Church of Corrigan. Interment will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from noon until the service starts at 2 p.m. Carroway Funeral Home of Lufkin is in charge of arrangements.
