Yellowjackets edge past Broaddus

The Chester Yellowackets hosted the Broaddus Bulldogs on Wednesday, March 23, and won 7-6.  The game scheduled for Friday against Burkeville was cancelled, and will be made up at a later date.  The Jackets hosted the San Augustine Wolves on Saturday, March 26.  The Jackets lost 14-17 in an exciting game.   Carson Thomson led the team at the plate with four hits, three RBI’s, and three runs scored.

Peanut Fann led the team from the mound with four strikeouts.  Waylon Sturrock and Trayce Knox both had three strikeouts.  The Jackets are now 5-5 on the season and 3-4 in district. 

The Yellowjackets will host the Zavalla Eagles on Friday, April 1 at 4 p.m.  They will play at home again on Tuesday, April 5 as they take on the Chireno Owls at 4 p.m.

The Chester Lady Jackets hosted the Broaddus Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday, March 23.  The La-dy Jackets defeated the Lady Bulldogs 15-0 in just three innings.  This victory was a total team effort, with good hitting and defense on the part of all players.  Olivia Gilzow pitched two innings and Kaylee Tolar pitched the last inning for the Lady Jackets.  Audrey Gilzow, Olivia Gilzow, and Kaylee Tolar hit home runs for the team.  The Lady Jackets hosted the Woden Lady Eagles in a district game on Friday, March 25.  The game was close, with neither team scoring until the fifth inning.  Woden was leading Chester 3-0, but the Lady Jackets came back in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game up and force an extra in-ning.  The Lady Jackets ended up losing 3-4, but put up a fight.  Coach Marty Thompson was proud of his team for not giving up and playing hard all eight innings. 

The Lady Jackets will host the Zavalla Lady Eagles on Friday, April 1 at 4:30p.m.  They will play at home again on Tuesday, April 5 as they take on the Chireno Lady Owls at 4:30p.m.

Yellowjacket golders compete in tourney

The Yellowjacket Golf Team competed in the Warren Golf Tournament in Wildwood on Mon-day, March 21.  Will Thomason led the team with an 84.  Jack Rayburn shot 90, Carson Thomson shot 94, Cutter Lowe shot 127, and Luke Read shot 141.  The Jackets are the district champions and have qualified for the Regional Golf Tournament scheduled for April 18-19 in Manor, Texas.
