TRINITY — Four students in Trinity ISD’s welding program will be chosen to further their education at a special academy in Wyoming.

The district’s Board of Trustees OK’d the program at their March 25 meeting.

Superintendent Dr. John Kaufman said the Western Welding Academy has positions open by invitation only, and based on student essays evaluated by local teachers, four qualified students can get scholarships and industry certification at a top welding school.

In addition to the students, their teachers will be allowed to attend to hone their skills as well, Kaufman said.

The program is part of the Blue Collar Tour, which Trinity High School hosted in January and which showcases trades as an alternative to the standard college route.

In other business, the board:

•approved Interquest Canines drug dogs for inspection of cars, rooms and lockers on campus;

•approved renaming a course to Restaurant Food Management, which was needed to be sure it falls into the sequence of getting certification;

•approved instructional materials; and

•approved renewal of all administrator contracts.
