GROVETON — It was smiles, tears and applause when the gavel came down at the sale for the Grand Champion Steer at the Trinity County Fair and Youth Livestock Show on Saturday.

Andrew Kembro sold his prize steer for $10,800, bought by Wiesner of Huntsville, a pretty good haul for a very good animal.

In all, the sale of the shop projects, Home Economics projects, cakes and critters brought in $398,622, well ahead of the 2023 total of $271,275.

Fair President Chad Arbuckle said that all the numbers — entries, attendance and projects — were up over last year’s event as well.

“The shop projects went from 77 to 122 this year, and there were 45 more animal projects this year,” he said. “This is a great turnout.”

On Friday, the fair held its inaugural “No Limits” Show, held for the “special” friends. The participants got to choose an animal in the barn, and were accompanied by other FFA or 4-H members that participated in the County Fair.

Each No Limit exhibitor that participated was interviewed by Mary Wilson, and they received their very own belt buckle to take home.

Other champions include:

Reserve Champion steer: Laney Peterson.

Bryar Thomas had the Grand Champion lamb, and Katie Davis had the Reserve Champion.

Grace Tullos had the Grand Champion goat, and Kort Arbuckle had the Reserve Champion.

Kaileigh Lopez had the Grand Champion swine, and Peyton McGee had the Reserve Champion.

Hannah Page had the Grand Champion commercial heifers, and Rylie Due had the Reserve Champion.

Rhett Hawkins had the Grand Champion broilers, and Tristin Eddins had the Reserve Champion.

Maddie Denman had the Grand Champion fryers and Brayden Leediker had the Reserve Champion.
