CLEVELAND — The Lady Pirates won first in the Cleveland Rotary tournament on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Cleveland.

Neveah Murphey led the offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 doubles and an RBI, while Adison Simpson went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Chloe Fuller also provided 2 hits as well

Isabelle Hooper and Jayci Wilson shared mound duties, allowing 5 hits and 4 runs and striking out 5.

The way to first included a 4-0 win over Orangefield, a 5-1 loss to Splendora, a 3-2 loss to Vidor, a 15-2 win over West Fork and a 7-1 win over Humble.

Against Humble, Isabelle Hooper went 3-for-3 at the plate, and Neveah Murphey went 2-for-3. Jayci Wilson got the win on the mound, striking out 5 while only allowing 1 run on 7 hits.

Against West Fork, Simpson and Murphey each went 4-for-4 at the plate, while Chloe Fuller chipped in 3 hits. Isabelle Hooper got the win, throwing 9 strikeouts while allowing only 2 runs and 2 hits.

Against Vidor, Simpson, Murphey, Rylei N and Wilson provided Shepherd’s only hits.

Against Splendora, Murphey and Rylei had the lone hits. Wilson and Hooper combined for 10 strikeouts while giving up 5 runs and 7 hits.

Against Orangefield, Chloe Fuller and Montana Capps each had 2 hits. Hooper struck out 9 while only giving up 4 hits.

Coldspring

The Lady Trojans went 2-2 on the weekend, beating Centerville 12-2 and Iola and losing to Cross Roads and Latexo.

Head Coach Dwain Anderson said that it was a good weekend for the team to learn.

“We are battling a few injuries, so we had to work to overcome some adversity,” he said. “I believe that will be a lesson we will be able to use later in the season as we get deep into district play.”

Izzy Doggett stood out, going 6-for-9 on the weekend with 3 singles, 2 doubles, and 1 home run; Trinity Rosales was 4-for-8 with 2 singles and 2 doubles.

Boys

Coldspring

On Thursday, Coldspring downed Cleveland 6-5, and on Friday, tied 3-3 with Fort Bend Hightower.

On Feb. 26, the Trojans blanked Grapeland 12-0.

Brennan Headley went 2-for-2, scoring 2 runs and posting 2 RBIs to lead the offense. James Clark, Jacob Ash, Terry Mills, Cayden Barton, Luke Monroe and Jordan Ash each contributed a hit.

Monroe and Nolan Beaver took pitching duties on the mound, combining for 8 strikeouts while only allowing 2 hits.

Shepherd

The Pirates split games at the Cleveland tournament, downing La Marque 7-3 but losing to Cleveland 12-1 on Friday.
