COCISD alums compete in Texas relay

Coldspring High School and Sam Houston State University alumni Chris and Christina Speaks competed in the Texas Independence Relay in March, completing the race on March 24.

The race began at approximately 6:20 a.m. Saturday morning. The only two-person team to run 200 miles from Gonzales to downtown Houston. They took turns running for 34 hours, completing the relay around 4 p.m. on March 24.
Last year they attempted the race but fell short. These runners endured muscle spasms, blisters, severe chafing and nausea. The husband-and-wife team worked to prepare by running extreme races throughout the year and recalibrating their nutrition plan for the race.
They are currently living in Washington State with their three boys.
