Fireworks sales approved for San Jacinto Day

The Polk County Commissioners Court approved an order authorizing the sale of fireworks during the San Jacinto Day period of April 16 through midnight on April 21 during its regular meeting Tuesday.

A request from the Polk County Office of Emergency Management for audio/video upgrades at the Emergency Operations Center, to be included on the fiscal year 2024 reimbursement resolution for the year-end issuance of legally authorized debt, was approved.

The Court approved the Precinct 1 Road and Bridge purchase of a John Deere tractor 6110M and a 22-foot boom mower from Tiger Corporation/George P. Bane Inc. in the amount of $203,826.30 with $132,000 to be paid from the American Rescue Plan Act funds and the remainder to be financed.

The reclassification of the county clerk receptionist to deputy clerk, with the difference in cost to be paid from the county clerk records management fund, was approved.

The Court approved a resolution restructuring the adult sexual assault response team.

In personnel matters, the Court reviewed and approved personnel action form requests submitted by department heads since the last meeting.

During informational reports, the Court reviewed the Polk Central Appraisal District fiscal year 2025 budget, which reflects a proposed increase of $225,890, or 12.56% over last year. A public hearing on the budget is slated for 5 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Polk Central Appraisal District office located at 114 Matthews St. in Livingston.

A proclamation recognizing March as American Red Cross Month was presented to representatives of the organization. Additionally, a proclamation was presented to Dorothy Poliseno in recognition of her 100th birthday.

Items on the consent agenda included:

•Approval of the minutes of the March 13 regular meeting;

•Approval of the schedules of bills;

•Approval of an order designating surplus property;

•Receipt of the county auditor’s monthly report, pursuant to Local Government Code Sec. 114.025;

•Receipt and recording of personnel action forms submitted by elected officials since the last meeting;

•Ratifying approval of engagement letter with Axley & Rode for fiscal year 2023 jail commissary audit;

•Approval of Precinct 2 Constable Bill Cunningham’s request to appoint Javier Zavala to reserve deputy constable;

•Receipt of the county treasurer’s monthly report for February 2024; and

•Approval of an interlocal agreement between Polk County and the City of Corrigan for the county’s provision of election equipment and services for the May 4 election, as recommended by the county clerk.

Sheriff Byron Lyons opened the meeting with prayer.
