GROVETON — The Centerville girls team lost and the boys won in a set of games against Laneville on Sept. 20.

Head Coach Geoffrey Hollis said the girls game started with tough, physical play that continued throughout the game, and Laneville came out on top 33-9. Eighth-grader Taylor Barton scored 4 points, sixth-grader Avery Brown scored 3 and sixth-grader Laura Rogers scored 2 points.

The boys secured a very impressive 43-24 victory over Laneville, although the game was a lot closer than the final score indicated. Laneville had an 8-5 lead after the first quarter but hot shooting in the second quarter gave Centerville a 19-11 lead at halftime.

This is Centerville’s first victory over Laneville at any level for more than five years. Seventh-grader Hardy Brown led the way with 21 points, followed by eighth-grader Wyatt Clede and seventh-grader Braden White, both with 10 points, and seventh-grader Brice Selman with 2 points.

Our B Team boys secured their first win of the season with a 11-7 victory over New Summerfield B Team. Seventh-grader Trinity Nerren led the way with 8 points and sixth-grader Grant Wood chipped in 3 points.

Centerville girls also claimed an impressive victory with a final score of 24-14. Sixth-grader Avery Brown led the Lady Dawgs with 11 points, while eighth-grader Taylor Barton scored 10 points, seventh-grader Raylee Bogs scored 2 points and sixth-grader Jordyn Jones scored 1 point.

The A team boys battled it out in a really good game but came up short 46-29.

New Summerfield held a slim 21-18 lead at halftime, and then hit some extremely tough shots late in the second half to pull away. Eighth-grader Wyatt Clede led the Dawgs with 10 points, while seventh-grader Braden White helped with 8 points, seventh-grader Hardy Brown scored 7 points, seventh-grader Brice Selman chipped in 3 points and seventh-grader Kie Barton scored 1 point.
