A Celebration of Life for Andrew “Andy” Lee Wells, 87, of Livingston, Texas, will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. at the Humble Civic Center located at 8233 Will Clayton Parkway, Humble, Texas 77338.

Andy was born July 28, 1937, in Crockett, Texas and passed away September 17, 2024, in Livingston, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Wells, Woodrow W. Burt and Cora Mae Wells Burt; first wife, Sally Sue (Reese) Wells; and sister, Pat Smith.

As a boy, he loved to hunt and fish. Although he grew up in Pasadena, he spent his summers with his grandparents in Crockett where he helped his grandfather grow watermelons, beginning his lifelong love of gardening.

Andy graduated from Pasadena High School in 1956, having played football all through junior high and high school. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1961 and a Master of Education degree in 1968, both from Sam Houston State University.

He was a teacher and coach at Sealy ISD for six years. He then went to Humble ISD where he served as a science teacher and coach at Humble High School, before becoming assistant principal and then principal.

Andy was the founding principal of Kingwood Middle School before becoming the founding principal of Kingwood High School, a position he held until his retirement in 1998. The baseball field at Kingwood High School was named the Andy Wells Field in 1999 and the annual Humble ISD Andy Wells Cross Country Invitational is an event that has welcomed athletes from across the region since 2002. Andy left his footprints, literally, at Kingwood High School where they may be found in the concrete picnic area in front of the school.

He moved to Livingston fulltime in 1998 to enjoy his retirement. He loved fishing and boating on Lake Livingston, gardening, traveling and planning family events where he would cook catfish caught from the lake. His favorite family holidays were Thanksgiving and July Fourth with the parade and hot dogs. Another thing he loved were his early-morning three-mile walks around the lake with his buddies.

A self-made man, Andy was a giving, generous person who wanted to help people. Throughout his years in education, his students were of utmost importance to him. He was known as a kind and compassionate man of integrity who was good-humored and always had a smile on his face.

Andy is survived by his wife, Jo Carol (Walker) Wells; son, Toby Wells; extended family, Jon C. Moore and family; stepson and wife, Stephen and Kim Manning; stepson and wife, Craig and Lynette Manning; grandchildren, Nova Manning, Margot Manning, Ashley Rupp and Andrew; great grandchildren, Jack Rupp, Margot Rupp and George Rupp; niece, Sally Annette Goach and family; niece, Jennifer Reese and family; and cousin, Melba Mae Loveless; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
