Football season has been over for several weeks, and all-district selections have been announced.  The Jackets received one superlative as Rick Carlton was named Newcomer of the Year. 

 First team all-district selections went to Carsyn Whitworth (RB), Miles Redwine (LB), Jackson Knox (OL), Carson Thomson (S), Kessler Romo (WR), Jeff Knox (DL), Jaxson Hilliard (C), and Keighen Green(RB).  Second team all-district went to Peanut Fann (LB), Zayne Barnhart(Utility), Kaighnen Green(DE), Payton Lacox (CB), Miles Redwine (RB), Carson Thomson (QB), Kessler Romo (CB), Cutter Lowe (OL), and Will Thomason (OL).  Colton Pursley (DL), Ethan Vinson (DL), and P.J. Purvis (RB) received Honorable Mention. 

 Miles Redwine, Carsyn Thomson and Jackson Knox also received Honorable Mention Academic All-State. 

 The Lady Jackets have a week of district play under their belt and are now 2-1 in District 28.  The loss came against Zavalla last Tuesday, Dec. 14, as the Lady Jackets lost at home in a close game.  The girls defeated Burkeville on the road on Friday, Dec. 17. 

 The Lady Jackets will have a long break, as they will be off until Tuesday, Jan. 4, as they host the Goodrich Lady Hornets in a 6 p.m. game. The Yellowjackets dropped their first district game to the Burkeville Mustangs on Friday, Dec. 17. 

 The Yellowjackets will have some time off for Christmas before returning to the gym on Thursday, Dec. 30 to face Baytown Christian at home. Tip off will be at 7:30 p.m.   

 The Chester Junior High Basketball teams hosted Spurger in three games on Monday, Dec. 13.  The seventh-grade boys lost their game to the Pirates.  However, both the junior high girls and eighth grade boys defeated the Pirates. The junior high will play next on Thursday, January 6 as they face Apple Springs at home starting at 5 p.m.

The Chester Lady Jackets had a big week.  They opened district with a win on the road against the High Island Lady Cardinals. The Jackets won by a score of 33-28. 

Lily Read led with 16 points. Kat Knox ended the night with seven points and Kyli Handley had six points.  Lexi McDonnold had a 3-pointer and Saydi Handley scored two points.      

 The Lady Jackets competed in the Deweyville Tournament Dec. 9-11 and came away with a third-place trophy. The girls defeated Colmesneil in their first game 29-21. Lily Read led the team with 11 points. Emma Grimes and Sydney Brock ended the game with six points each.  Trinity Jerkins and Kyli Handley each contributed two points. Kat Knox and Abby Grimes each scored a free throw.  The Lady Jackets were defeated by Starks 21-64 in game two of the tournament. Lily Read was high point for her team with 10 points. Abby Grimes scored four points.  Emma Grimes, Sydney Brock, and Kyli Handley all ended the game with two points, and Lexi McDonnold scored a free throw. The Lady Jackets defeated Burkeville on game three of the tournament by a score of 38-20. 

 Saydi Handley led the Lady Jackets with seven points. Trinity Jerkins scored six points. Sydney Brock, Kat Knox, Lily Read, Faith Jerkins, Emma Grimes, Abby Grimes and Kyli Handley all contributed points. 

 The Lady Jackets lost their game against Deweyville on Saturday 21-35, knocking the team out of the tournament.  Lily Read led her team again with 11 points. Sydney Brock scored six points, Kyli Handley scored three points, and Kat Knox added a free throw. The Lady Jackets ended the tournament with two wins, two losses, and the third-place trophy. Lily Read was named All-Tournament.

 The Lady Jackets travel to Burkeville on Friday, Dec. 17 to play against the Lady Mustangs. Game time is 3 p.m. Then on Monday, Dec. 20, the Lady Jackets will host the Warren Lady Warriors in a 1:30 p.m. game. 

 The Yellowjackets played in the Deweyville Tournament Dec. 10. Three games in an afternoon took its toll on the Jackets, as they ran out of steam in the third game. But the team got some good play time, and areas of weakness were identified by Coach Justin Hilliard. This came at a good time, as the Jackets start district play at the end of this week. 

 The Jackets lost game one to the Deweyville Pirates 19-42. Rick Carlton led the Yellowjackets with six points. Luke Read and Carson Thomson scored four points apiece, Jack Rayburn scored three points, and Kaighnen Green contributed two points.  The Jackets lost game two to Colmesneil 44-54 in a game that was a battle up until the end. Carson Thomson ended the game with 16 points. Jack Rayburn scored 13 points. Keighen Green scored six points, Rick Carlton scored five points, and Luke Read added two baskets. The Jackets were defeated in their final game of the tournament against Starks by a score of 32-41. 

 Rick Carlton led the team with 11 points. Luke Read and Carson Thomson both score four points. Jack Rayburn and Keighen Green both scored three points. Cutter Lowe, Bradley Davison, and Jeff Knox scored a basket apiece, and Kaighnen Green contributed a free throw. 

 The Yellowjackets will be on the road on Friday, Dec. 17 as they will face the Burkeville Mustangs to open district play. Game time is around 4:15 p.m., or after the conclusion of the girls’ game.  The Jackets will host the Colmesneil Bulldogs on Monday, Dec. 20 at 12:30 p.m. 

 The junior high girls lost their game on Monday, Dec. 6 to Good Samaritan Fred by a score of 8-15. The boys were off last week. 

 The junior high boys and girls will have a few weeks off for Christmas break.  They will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 6 as they host Apple Springs. The girls will tip off at 5 p.m., and the boys’ game will follow.

 The Yellowjacket boys basketball team also traveled to Spurger last Tuesday.  The Yellowjackets played a great game against the Pirates, and the boys played better defensively than they have all season.  The game was close the entire four quarters, with the Jackets losing 40-45.  Leading in scoring for the Jackets was Jack Rayburn with 12 points.  Carson Thomson was right behind Rayburn with 10 points.  Cutter Lowe scored seven points, Luke Read scored six points, and Rick Carlton scored five points. 

 The Yellowjackets played well in the Apple Springs Holiday Hoops Tournament November 2-4.  The Jackets went 2-1 in the tournament, with their loss coming in the first game of the tournament against the Grapeland Sandies JV team.  The Jackets lost against the Sandies 36-48.  Luke Read led the team with 10 points.  Carson Thomson scored seven points, Jack Rayburn and Keighen Green both contributed six points, and Rick Carlton added a free throw. 

 The Jackets came back for game two and defeated Centerville 42-40 in a game that came down to the final seconds.  Carson Thomson went on a scoring spree in the last quarter and ended the game with 19 points, seven of those points coming from free throws. Jack Rayburn contributed 15 points, Rick Carlton scored four points, and Luke Read, Cutter Low and Keighen Green all added two points. The Jackets won the consolation game against the Full Armor Christian Academy by a score of 52-15.  Jack Rayburn led the team with 12 points and 100% at the free throw line.  Luke Read scored 10 points, Keighen Green scored eight points, Rick Carlton added six points, and Carson Thomson finished the game with four points. Both Bradley Davison and Jeff Knox knocked in 3-pointers, and Kessler Romo and P.J. Purvis each scored a basket.  Carson Thomson, Luke Read, and Jack Rayburn were each awarded All-Tournament honors.

 The Jackets will compete in the Deweyville Classic on Dec. 10-11. The tournament bracket has Chester playing host team Deweyville on Friday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m.  A win will have the Jackets playing that same day at 2:30 p.m. If the Yellowjackets lose the game against Deweyville, they will play again at 4 p.m. 

The boys will have a bye on Tuesday, Dec. 14, as they prepare to begin district play on Friday, Dec. 17 against Burkeville. 

Lady Jackets take on Spurger

 The Chester Lady Jackets traveled to Spurger last Tuesday, Nov. 30, to take on the Pirates. The girls battled hard against the Lady Pirates, but came up short, losing 28-37. Freshman Sydney Brock led with 10 points. Lily Read scored five points, and Kat Knox scored four points.  Both Emma Grimes and Kyli Handley each scored three points, and Abby Grimes contributed a free throw. 

 The Lady Jackets competed in the Apple Springs Holiday Hoops Tournament Nov. 2-4. The girls lost to Richards in their first game 22-25.  Lily Read led the team with 12 points. Sydney Brock ended the game with five points, Kyli Handley scored four points, Saydi Handley scored two points, and Emma Grimes scored a free throw.  The Lady Jackets defeated host team Apple Springs on Friday morning 49-11. 

 Lily Read led the team with 23 points. Kyli Handley scored nine points, Sydney Brock added 5 points, Kat Knox scored four points, and Saydi Handley contributed a 3-pointer.  Emma Grimes, Faith Jerkins, and Abby Grimes all scored two points. 

 The Lady Jackets lost their last game of the tournament to Grapeland 31-49. Kyle Handley was high point for the Lady Jackets with 11 points. Sydney Brock and Lily Read scored six points each. Emma Grimes scored four points, Kat Knox scored two points, and Saydi Handley contributed a free throw.  Lily Read was named All-Tournament. 

 The Lady Jackets will compete in the Deweyville Classic on Dec. 9-11. The tournament bracket has Chester playing Colmesneil on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 1:30p.m.  A win will have the girls playing that same day at 4:30 p.m. If the Lady Jackets lose the game against Colmesneil, they will play again at 3 p.m. 

The girls will play a district home game against the Zavalla Lady Eagles on Tuesday, Dec. 14.  The game will start at 6 p.m. 

 The junior high boys and girls traveled to Burkeville on Monday, November 29.  The girls and boys teams both defeated the Mustangs.  Coach Justin Hilliard is pleased with the progress the teams are making this season.

 The junior high boys and girls will travel to Spurger on Monday, Dec. 13 to take on the Pirates.  The girls game will tip off at 5 p.m. with the boys game to follow.

The Yellowjacket basketball team got the season off to a good start with a couple of wins last week.  The Jackets defeated the Apple Springs Eagles on Tuesday, Nov. 16 by a score of 45-17. Coach Hilliard is encouraged after this first week of play.  He has high expectations for the team.  High scorer for the night was Jack Rayburn with 20 points.  Carson Thomson scored nine points.  Keighen Green scored six points, Rick Carlton score four points, Jeff Knox scored three points, Cutter Lowe scored two points, and Kaighnen Green added a free throw.  The Jackets took on the Fred Good Samaritan Home School team on Friday, Nov. 19. 

 The Jackets won 37-19.  Rayburn again led in scoring with 14 points.  Luke Read and Keighen Green each had seven points.  Bradley Davison scored three points, and Carson Thomson, Cutter Lowe, and P.J. Purvis each scored two points. 

The Jackets next game will be in Spurger on Tuesday, Nov. 30.  The game will start at approximately 6:30 p.m., or after the conclusion of the girls game.

 The junior high teams traveled down the road to Colmesneil on Monday, Nov. 15 to play a boys and girls game against the Bulldogs. Both boys and girls got big wins for their first game of the season. 

 The junior high teams will be on the road on Nov. 29, as they head to Burkeville to play against the Mustangs.  Game time for junior high girls will be 5 p.m., with the boys game to follow.
