Eagle bats blazin’ against Boling

NAVASOTA – The Woodville Eagles are now area champs.

The Eagles played the Boling Bulldogs in Navasota last Thursday and Friday in a two-game series for the title, with back-to-back wins.

In game one, the pitching of Eagle Tate Hickman got the Eagles the win. Hickman only let one run occur on five hits, over four innings, and struck out five batters. The Bulldogs fell behind early in the game and could not come back, with their pitcher allowing eight hits and five runs in the third and fifth innings. Eagles Lane Ferguson and Cole Standley stepped up to close out the game in relief for a 6-3 finish.

Game two was a different story for the Eagles, as they completely shut out their opponent with a 16-0 score on Friday.

With Eagle bats a blazing and ace pitching from Darius Bean, the Bulldogs could not come back from an early fall behind. In the first inning, the Eagles scored on a Hickman single and a Kaden Satterwhite run. Bean only allowed one hit from Boling in five innings and struck out five batters.

In the third inning, Boling’s Trenton Jones gave up five Eagle runs on four hits.

Woodville now faces Diboll this Thursday and Friday in Cleveland. Game one takes place at 6 p.m., and game two at 6 p.m. A third game, if necessary, is slated for Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Eagles go into this next level with a 21-8 overall record for the season, with 8 district wins. The Lumberjacks sport a 22-8 overall record, with a 7-5 district number.

The winner of the Regional Quarterfinal round will go on to face the winner of the Lorena vs. West game series for the semifinals.
