The Chester Lady Jackets overcame a tough loss Friday night to Martinsville by sweeping a double header on Saturday to move on to the Regional Semi-Finals.

In the first game, Chester stormed out to a four-run lead and never looked back in a 16-4 run-rule win. The deciding game three saw Chester continue to strike early with three runs in the first inning.  Kaylee Tolar’s home run in the third inning put the Lady Jackets up 6-0.

Five additional runs in the fifth inning enabled Chester to cruise to an 11-0 victory.  Emma Byrd led the offense in game two with a double and a single and three RBI’s.  The whole Lady Jacket team got into the act in game three, banging out 10 hits.  Kaylee Tolar, Lauren Citrano, Kinsley Barnes, and Lily Read all had two hits apiece in the big win.  Kaylee Tolar pitched a shutout in game three to move Chester to a third-round matchup against the Brookeland Lady Cats.

The Lady Jackets will play game one of their Regional Semi-Final series against Brookeland on Thursday, May 11 at 6 p.m. in Woodville. Game two will be played on Friday, May 12 in Cleveland at 5:30p.m.

Game three, if necessary, will be played in Cleveland at 7:30p.m. on Friday.

Yellowjackets to face Kennard in round two

The Yellowjackets will face the Kennard Tigers in round two of the state baseball playoffs this weekend.

Kennard knocked the Jackets out of the playoffs in 2022, and the Jackets are looking for revenge. Kennard defeated North Zulch last week in the bi-district round, and the Jackets advanced with a bye.

All games of the ‘best of three’ series will be played in Cleveland. Game one will be on Thursday, May 11 at 6 p.m. Game two will be on Friday, May 12 at 6 p.m. Game three, if needed, will be played on Saturday, May 13 at 6 p.m.
