JV ‘Jacket team defeats Leggett

The junior varsity team won both games this week. The Jackets lost to Spurger on Jan. 17 by a score of 21-33. Travis Zulpo led the team with 10 points, Kessler Romo scored six points, both Levi Barnhart and Hunter Luther scored two points, and Jakori Davis scored one point. The Jackets defeated the Leggett Pirates on the road on Jan. 20 by a score of 40-20. Barnhart was high point with 14 points. Also scoring during the game were Romo with 12 points, Davis, Zulpo, and Luther with four points apiece, and Chase Bertrand with two points.
The JV Yellowjackets will host the Zavalla Eagles on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m.
Lady Jacket Basketball
The Lady Jackets outscored both Spurger and Leggett this week, bringing their district record to 7-2. The Lady Jackets defeated the Spurger Lady Pirates on Tuesday, Jan. 17 in front of a packed Yellowjacket gymnasium by a score of 62-51. Lily Read scored 22 points and Lauren Citrano scored 16 points. Kyli Handley scored 10 points, Saydi Handley scored seven points, Emma Byrd scored four points, and Blakeney Whitworth scored three points. The Lady Jackets traveled to Leggett on Friday, Jan. 20 and defeated the Lady Pirates 73-21. Read led the team again with 33 points and K. Handley added an impressive 18 points. Other Lady Jackets scoring during the game were Citrano with five points,
Byrd, Emma Grimes, and Bree Cooper with four points apiece, S. Handley with three points, and Whitworth with two points.
The Lady Jackets are nearing the end of the regular season, with just a few weeks remaining. The girls will travel to Goodrich on Friday, Jan. 20 to play against the Lady Hornets in a 6 p.m. game. The Lady Jackets will take on the Zavalla Lady Eagles at home on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Tip off will be at 6 p.m.
Yellowjacket Varsity Basketball
The Yellowjackets dropped both district games this week. The Jackets lost to Spurger on Jan. 17 by a score of 35-74. Jack Rayburn led the Jackets with 15 points.
Also putting points on the scoreboards for the Jackets were Jesse Bittick with six points, Keighen Green with five points, Jaxon Gay, Kai Hilliard, and Bradley Davison each with two points, and Rick Carlton with one point. The Jackets traveled to Leggett for a game against the Pirates on Jan. 20, losing 26-98.
Rayburn ended the night with 10 points, Davison scored nine points, Bittick scored seven points, and Gay, Hilliard, and Carlton all scored three points apiece.
The Jackets will be on the road as they take on the Goodrich Hornets on Friday, Jan. 27. The game will get started after the girls’ game, around 7:15 p.m. The Jackets host the Zavalla Eagles on Tuesday, Jan. 31. Tip off will be around 7:15 p.m., after the girls’ game.
