Spurger Pirates Coby Anthony (left) and Noah Donatucci (right) get some airtime against the Latexo Tigers in the recent Chester tournament. The Pirates beat the Tigers 51-40 and have been on a roll lately with wins against Goodrich last Friday (73-22); Burkeville (64-39); High Island (58-35) and Brookeland (81-40).
The Pirates rematched Chester on Tuesday on the ‘Jackets’ home court, with scores unavailable at press time. They play Zavalla at home on Friday, with a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
The Pirates are 3-2 in district and 13-10 overall.
The Lady Pirates have been faring well, too, with recent wins against Burkeville last week (59-18) and High Island (45-39). They had a narrow loss (44-41) against Goodrich, and played on Tuesday against the Chester Lady Jackets. The Lady Pirates will play Leggett on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at home, with a 12 a.m. tip-off.
The junior high Lady Pirates won in a tournament last weekend in Burkeville. Their first game was against Legacy Christian with a score of 26-7, second game was against High Island with a score of 20-15. The team was filled with excitement and joy over the win.
