NEWTON – The Woodville varsity and junior varsity boys and varsity girls track and field athletes racked up the points at the Newton Eagle Relays last week at Newton High School. The girls came in first place with 196 points, overall, and the boys finished in fourth, with 69 points, cumulatively. The JV boys also earned a fourth-place finish with 80 points.

Despite a strong finish at the event, the big takeaway belonged to Eagle senior Linus Mannino, who not only set a school record in the high jump event but is currently tied for first in the nation with his jump of 7’.

Among the varsity boys who also took part in field events, Braylon Rigsby earned a second-place finish in the discus with a throw of 107’7”. In the triple jump, TyMarion Walker placed sixth with a jump of 38’-7 ½”. Jerry Taylor-Sowell medaled silver in the pole vault with a jump of 7’. 

Bart Sylestine earned a gold medal for the Eagles in shot put with a distance of 43’10”. 

In the 200-meter dash for the varsity boys, Devonte Hadnot earned a third-place finish with a time of 22.61. Clay Busey and Lebron Miller got fourth and sixth places in the 800-meter run with times of 2:19.76 and 2:20.80. In the 300-meter hurdles, Hayden Hunter earned sixth with a time of 46.64.

For the varsity girls, in the running events, Tamara Martin earned first place finishes in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash events, with times of 12.15 and 25.98, respectively. Martin also earned the gold in the long jump with a distance of 16’- 10 ¾”. 

Fellow Lady Eagles Juliea Jackson earned a second-place in the 100-meter with a time of 13.14; Keniyah Williams got third in the 200-meter with a time of 28.09; Amy Lee earned fifth (28.93.) In the 400-meter dash, Taylor Greer finished fourth (1:11.8) and Yaheria Battise came in fifth (1:12.10).

Brittany Lilley placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:41.06 and Zelia Williams came in sec-ond with 2:41.06.

Lady Eagles also placed in the 1600-meter run, with Aliyah Polite-Robinson placing second (6:59.45) and Jenifer Garcia coming in sixth (7:34.78). Garcia and America Janis placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3200-meter run.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Alexia Alcalais and Jerni Nixon earned first and second place for finishes of 17.51 and 18.18. Alcalais also earned fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and Nixon sixth. Brittany Lilley came in third that event.

Kamryn Grammer earned a gold in the discus, with a throw of 102’11”, dwarfing her closest competitor, Dayreionia Isaac of San Augustine, who finished second with a distance of 84’2”. Grammer also placed second in the shot put with a distance of 31’6”

In the JV boys competitions, Tayvion Hunter and Ronnie Douglas earned fourth and sixth places, respec-tively, in the 100-meter dash, with times of 11.88 and 11.96. Douglas also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.78. Walker also placed in the 300-meter hurdles in fourth, with a time of 57.72.

In the 400-meter dash, Jacob Ursrey placed fifth with a time of 1:04.52 and Isaiah Coleman placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:37.90.

The team of Coleman; Damorion Randazzle; Caleb Johnson; Landan Hoke and alternates Ursrey and Hunter placed second in the 4x100 relays with a time of 46:44.

In the 4x400-meter relays, the team of Coleman; Ursrey; Johnson; Randazzle and alternates Dylan Wil-liams and Jacob Hyder medaled bronze with a finish of 4:20.63.

Randazzle; Johnson; Hunter; Hyder and alternates Williams and Douglas were the team for the 4x200-meter relays, with a time of 1:40.20 and a third-place finish.

The JV boys who placed in field events included: Douglas, in the long jump, who earned second-place with a 17’-10” jump. Hunter got fifth with 16’-8.5”.

Wesley Walsh and D’Angelo Williams came in fifth and sixth, respectively, in the shot put, with distances of 29’3” and 28’-8 ¾”. Also, Logan Primrose earned a fourth-place finish in the discus with 83’-9”.

Coleman also came in second in the triple jump for the JV boys, with a distance of 36’-3 ½”.
