Variety of topics discussed at townhall meeting

IVANHOE – At a special-called townhall meeting on Saturday, Oct. 22, the Ivanhoe City Council shared information and entertained discussion about a variety of topics, ranging from taxes to air BnB facilities.
Prior to the townhall meeting, the city’s public works director David Marshall presented information about a used truck that was available for purchase. The item was presented as a single agenda item on a special meeting called to take place before the scheduled townhall.
Marshall said the truck can be used as a three-yard dumptruck, or a flatbed, or an all-weather work truck, does not require a CDL holder to drive it, which is an advantage to the city, as there is only one CDL-certified employee.
“We have been searching for this vehicle for four months, plus,” Marshall said. He covered the load capability of the truck, and how, if purchased, the city could have two trucks running in tandem on projects.
Marshall said the purchase would allow the city’s public works department to do its job faster and better. He said the truck has 105K miles and is in excellent shape for $13,500. The purchase was approved by the council, out of the city’s capital investment fund.
Mayor Cathy Bennett called the townhall meeting to order at 10:01, after the special-called meeting. Before the townhall began, Bennett mentioned the new fire station, which was hosting an open house event.
The first topic Bennett brought up on the townhall agenda was the city’s tax rate. She said the amount she’d initially based the budget on was in error, as the tax assessor had given incorrect numbers prior to the budget adoption and tax rate setting.
