Tigers fall twice to Bulldogs

TRINITY — The Tigers lost two games against New Waverly last week, falling 21-0 on March 21 and 11-3 on Friday.
Remington Lassman led the offense with 3 hits on Friday, including a 1-RBI triple.

Centerville
On Friday, the Centerville Bulldogs were blanked by Douglass 25-0.
On March 21, Centerville lost to Cushing 21-0.

Groveton
The Indians edged out Kennard 4-3 on March 21.
After Friday’s game against Wells was moved, Groveton faced Wells in a makeup game on Monday, and won the match 12-2.

Softball
Groveton
On March 21, Groveton downed Douglass 2-1.

The Groveton Indians downed Brookeland and Chireno while tying with West Sabine at last week’s Douglas tournament.

Groveton down Brookeland 8-2, with Dax Parker taking the win on the mound.

In the tie with West Sabine, Tanner Steubing was on the mound, throwing 4 strikeouts.

Against Chireno, Ty Torregrosa got the 12-3 win on the mound.

On March 7, the Indians downed Trinity 14-1, with Jake Plotts getting the win.

Apple Springs
On March 7, the Eagles were beaten 8-0 by Douglas.

Centerville
In early March, the Bulldogs competed in the Latexo tournament, suffering three losses.

Centerville lost to Apple Springs 9-6, with Ashton Dain, Audra Bolton and Blayn Self each with 1 hit.

Centerville was downed by Dawson 11-0, with Ty Havard getting the lone hit.

Centerville fell to Mt. Enterprise 12-1. Aydn Self went 3-for-3 with 3 singles and 1 RBI, and Anthony Villanueva and Audra Bolton each with a hit.

Aydn Self threw 5 innings allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 10 strikeouts

Softball

Groveton
The Lady Indians won two games last week, blanking Wells 21-0 and beating Lovelady 8-4.

Trinity
The Trinity Lady Tigers were outclassed by Tarkington 23-4 on March 7.

TRINITY — To end up in the postseason brackets, the Trinity Tigers needed to win out the regular season; however, a 72-59 loss to Crockett means the season ended against Shepherd on Tuesday.

The Tigers did beat Coldspring 84-81 in double overtime on Feb. 7.

Standouts during play were Junior Hernandez, Tristan Martinez, Kaden Barnes and Cole Hortman.

Centerville
The Bulldogs won both games last week, beating Apple Springs on 53-47 on Feb. 7 and Slocum 60-56 on Friday.

Centerville secured sole possession of fifth place out of eight teams in one of the toughest 1A districts in the state, which is one spot from the playoffs.

Feb. 7 was Senior Night, and the school honored the five seniors before the varsity game — Aydn Self, Audra Bolton, Walker Thorne, Jada Welch and Brianna Commiato.

Top players for Centerville were Aydn Self with 23 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist; Iain Kendrick with 12 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists; Colton Brasuell with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists; Brayden Watson with 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals; Walker Thorne with 2 points, 7 rebounds and 1 block; and Audra Bolton with 1 point and 7 rebounds.

For Apple Springs, top players were Dakota Campbell with 21 points and 9 rebounds; Caden Diaz with nine points and 4 rebounds; and Connor Kaufman with 6 points and 11 rebounds.

The Apple Springs JV downed Centerville JV 51-26.

Against Slocum, top players were Iain Kendrick with 21 points and 4 rebounds; Colton Brasuell with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist; Aydn Self with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal; Brayden Watson with 1 point, 6 rebounds, 11 assists, 2 steals and 1 block; and Audra Bolton with 2 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist.

Apple Springs
The Eagles were outmatched by Martinsville, and lost their game on Friday 104-36.

Groveton
The Indians split games last week, downing Latexo 65-44 on Feb. 7 but losing to Grapeland 79-47 on Friday.

Girls

Trinity
The Trinity Lady Tigers ended their season with a 61-16 loss to Coldspring-Oakhurst on Feb. 7.

Centerville
The Lady Bulldogs downed the Lady Eagles of Apple Springs 33-19 on Feb. 7.

Groveton
The Lady Indians finished district play with a hold on second place in the district and downing Latexo 41-37 on Feb. 7.

Top players were Kiki Smith with 16 points, 6 steals, 13 rebounds and 2 assists; Stormie Hensley with 9 points; Isavel Bautista with 6 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals; Laney Peterson with 5 points and 4 rebounds; Daisia Leonard with 4 points; Anahi Chavez with 5 rebounds; and Marie Gonzalez with 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

The Lady Indians were to play Frankston in Elkhart in the first round.

The Lady Indians won two district tilts last week, downing Leon 36-31 on Jan. 17 and Latexo 46-30 on Friday.

The wins put Groveton’s district record at 4-1.

Top producers in the Leon game were Anahi Chavez with 7 points; Emma Alexander with 4 points; Marie Gonzalez with 5 points; Kiki Smith with 12 points and 2 steals; Stormie Hensley with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals; and Isavel Bautista with 12 rebounds and 5 steals.

Against Latexo, top producers were Kiki smith with 16 points pts, 7 rebounds and 2 assists; Isavel Bautista with 7 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists; Laney Peterson with 7 points and 9 rebounds; and Anahi Chavez with 6 points.

Apple Springs
The Lady Eagles were outclassed by Martinsville 56-1 on Jan. 17.

Trinity
The Lady Tigers suffered two losses in last week’s action.

On Friday, Trinity lost to Shepherd 65-23, and on Jan. 17, Trinity was hammered by Crockett 71-5.

Boys
The Apple Springs Eagles were downed 63-49 to Wells on Friday.

Top scorers were Dakota Campbell with 22, Caden Diaz with 11 and Ryan Phillips with 10.

Campbell also pulled in 10 rebounds.

Centerville
The Bulldogs lost two district matchups last week, falling 64-36 to Neches and 57-42 to Slocum.

Groveton
The Indians posted two district wins last week, a 69-33 win over Latexo and a 62-33 win over Leon.

Trinity
The Tigers lost a district tilt against Shepherd 58-51 on Friday.
