TRINITY — The Tigers lost their final game of the season to district leaders Shepherd, falling 56-50 on Feb. 13 in overtime.

Tigers finished the season with a 14-17 record. Leading scorers were Cole Hortman with 15 points along with Ayden Debose and Terian Maxie both with 10.

Head Coach Jacoby Mitchell said that although every district game was a competitive battle, as a team they must learn how to finish and turn close losses into wins.

“I am very proud of the competitive spirit that our team played with every night; we definitely left it all on the court,” Mitchell said. “Although this year didn’t end how we wanted it to, we as a program are very optimistic that the future is bright for Tiger hoops.”

On Feb. 13, the Indians lost to Lovelady 43-48, causing a tie with Latexo for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Daiton Chandler was the leading scorer with 17 points. Billy Thomas had just 1 point less, finishing with 16 points.

On Thursday, Groveton again faced Latexo, this time winning by a score of 58-55 after Bryon Thomas hit a last second 3-point buzzer beater.

Bryon and Daiton Chandler both finished with 16 points, while Billy Thomas was the leading scorer with 17 points.

After advancing to the bi-district round of the playoffs, the Indians fell to Martins Mill 91-44 on Monday.

The Eagles ended their regular season at fourth place in district, even though they posted a 68-36 loss to Wells in the final game of the season on Feb. 13.

Dakota Campbell was the top scorer, pouring in 12 points.

Apple Springs did advance to the bi-district tournament, and was to face Brookeland on Tuesday.
