APPLE SPRINGS — Many East Texans are seeking a true conservative candidate who will be their voice in the 89th session of the Texas Legislature in 2025, and Paulette Carson looks to fill that role.

Carson has been listening to you and is taking on incumbent House Rep. Trent Ashby, who has not had a primary challenger since entering the Republican political scene a decade ago. The primary election is March 5, 2024.

After witnessing the debacle in the Texas State House earlier this year, it became clear that the risk of losing Texas is higher than ever before. During the Legislative session the conservative voice was diminished, and many strong and important bills to help Texans gain ground were systematically blocked.

The impeachment process of our Attorney General exposed the lack of principles in our current “conservative” leadership. This was the final straw to bring Carson to drive a stake in the ground for House District 9. Carson believes the power of our conservative voice has never been more crucial.

“The Texas House is in dire need of leaders who are both principled and courageous,” Carson said. “True conservative leaders must dare to act in opposition to the current Republican House leadership. They have been persuaded for decades to align with liberal forces in the House for political gain and influence. Follow the money that supports our legislators and the alliances become clear. Our Great State of Texas is losing its way. This mission is paramount to saving Texas, and thus saving America.”

As a life-long Republican coming from a military family, Carson understands the importance of defending our state and nation from both foreign and domestic terrorists. She is a strong champion for protecting our Second Amendment rights against all federal overreaches.

The foundation of her campaign is to Take Your Voice to Austin and work to Revive Texas Values.

Carson has a long history of leadership in the Republican Party across the state of Texas. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University with an emphasis in Management and Economics. With her broad experience in corporate management, along with sound fiscal oversight, she promises to be your reliable financial conservative voice for HD9.

Carson is a dedicated wife, mother, businesswoman, and founder of two non-profit organizations. She and her husband Charlie have three sons: Kyle is a small business owner, and his wife Debbie is a public school educator; David is serving as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Space Force, and his wife Stephanie is a Christian family counselor.

For 25 years, Paulette and Charlie, with their special-ability son Caleb, have enjoyed life on their ranch amidst the Davy Crockett National Forest. They attend Harmony Hill Baptist Church in Lufkin.

“Faith, Family and Freedom are what make Texas great,” Carson said. “I will Take Your Voice to Austin as we work together to Revive Texas Values.”

Julias TidbitsThis past weekend Trinity was really hopping. We had so many fundraisers and organizational events going on that it was hard to choose which one to attend.

The one I attended, of course, was the SAAFE House Denim & Diamonds Purse Bingo at the Trinity Community Center. I have attended this fundraiser for more than 13 years.

The SAAFE House event was a huge success. Everyone had a great time, the food was great, the prizes were awesome, and Rana Wingo is to be commended for raising funds for her organization these past 13 years to advocate for Trinity children.

Wingo has been a children’s advocate for more than 20 years for SAAFE House in Trinity, and I hope they appreciate her as much as Trinity County does for all her caring, compassion, and professional expertise to all the law enforcement agencies, and other children’s group.

•Now, a recap for this week’s enjoyment opportunities.

The Wall of Honor Society 16th annual fundraiser is Saturday starting at noon and ending at 6 p.m. The event benefiting the Trinity County Veterans has 10 major raffle drawings throughout the afternoon and you do not have to be present to win. In addition to the raffle drawings, there will be door prizes, food, and music with silent and live quilt auctions too. For more information, please contact Bill Reeves at (936) 661-7107 for raffle tickets and prize details.

•Don’t forget the Pumpkin Patch opened this weekend. Donations are the standard fee. The patch is located downtown on the FTMC lot, and it is decorated wonderfully for the children to have fun, and for the parents to take pictures of them having fun.

The days and time of operating hours in the Pumpkin Patch are Oct. 14-31, Monday through Friday from 3:30-6:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; and Sundays 12:30-5 p.m.

•The Trinity High School Seniors are having a Senior Halloween Haunted House on Oct. 28, starting at 8 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. and the cost is $5 per person.

•The Trinity Police Department is hosting Treats on the Street Halloween Festival on Tuesday on Elm Street at 6:30 p.m. The festival is free with prizes galore, including drawings, bicycle giveaways, gift certificates, and all the candy donated by Trinity citizens for the children. For more information, please call (936) 594-2505.

This weekend will be easier to choose your pleasure as most of the events held this weekend are age- and gender-appropriate. For instance, haunted houses, Treats on the Streets, the Pumpkin Patch and and church parties will abound for the children, and other events and activities are planned for the adults and veterans in our area at the VFW Hall and Scheelbillies on FM 356.

•As previously mentioned in the last issue, November is taking the spotlight in less than two weeks for more activities.

The month of November up-dates:

•Nov. 4, deer season opens

•Nov. 4, Boys & Girls Club Bingo Bash at VFW hall.

•Nov. 4, Liberty Christian Center Veterans Event.

•Nov. 4, VFW Post 6899 Dinner and Dance.

•Nov. 5, Knights of Columbus Shrimp Gumbo Dinner.

•Nov. 11, First Presbyterian Church Art/Bake Sale.

•Nov. 11, Veteran Appreciation Banquet, VFW Hall.

•Nov. 20-24 is TISD Winter Break.

•First Presbyterian Church is hosting a Quilt and Art Show from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Nov. 11. There will be a bake sale and other items to help raise funds for various charities supported by our Presbyterian Women’s Group.

The church is located at 405 N. Elm St. and celebrates 110 years of service. Their building was dedicated on Oct. 12, 1913. Please attend this celebration and see their beautiful sanctuary.

Saturday, December 2, is the TPCC Christmas Show at the Trinity Community Center at 10 a.m.

•Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce’s next meeting is Nov. 7 at the Chamber Building located at 105 Stadium St. at 6 p.m. If you would like to attend and give suggestions, we will be planning the agenda and Christmas program at this time and we welcome all ideas and improvements.

TRINITY COUNTY —Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers investigated a non-injury crash on U.S. Highway 287, near state Highway 94, that occurred Oct. 11.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 8 a.m., a 2020 Mack truck tractor semi-trailer was traveling east on U.S. 287. It is reported that the driver was traveling at a speed which was unsafe as he took the exit ramp to merge onto S.H. 94, causing the truck tractor and semi-trailer to overturn on its left side.

The driver, 57-year-old Russell Maddox of Diboll, was not injured.
