Special to the News-Standard

FRIDAY — Four generations of the Jeffus family celebrated fellowship at its family reunion.

Upwards of 40 attended Friday night’s fish fry and 46 showed for Saturday’s pot luck luncheon at the Friday Community Center. There were lots of good food and great visiting. The delicious fish was caught and cooked by Josh, Jordan, and Jacob from the third generation, grandsons of David Jeffus, our host of the fish fry. Others brought desserts and enjoyed being where we’ve had family gatherings duringthe past forty plus years.

Our ancestor, the Rev. Lemuel Jeffus, in the early 1900s preached in the old schoolhouse/Friday Community Center when weather was too bad to have services under the brush arbor just outside. What an honor and privilege to gather where many of our loved ones, and friends have worshiped over a hundred years ago.

In conjunction with our get together, we celebrated the 60th wedding anniversary of Bob and Carolyn Jeffus with a delicious cake brought by their son.

Also, the lady in the pink blouse, Betty Thompson remembered attending church services led by the Rev. Lem at the old schoolhouse back in the 1940s.

Family togetherness is rare in some areas of this world. We are very blessed, and thankful for the love we share.

Just after our group picture was made, I asked if anyone had something to say. Our precious Justin, (sitting on the floor in front), raised his hand, and said, “I just want to say that I love everybody that’s here.” Our oldest generation feels confident that when we are gone, the younger Jeffus generations, with God’s help, will continue to love and care for others.
