An early morning traffic stop led to the arrest of a 39-year-old man on various drug charges and the recovery of several pounds of marijuana.

Police records indicate that in the early morning hours of Oct. 17, Trinity County Sheriff’s Deputies J. Scott Moore and Bradley Costa stopped a Mercedes Benz passenger car driven by Dakkari Dijon McAnuff for not dimming the headlights. The vehicle was pulled over on Highway 94 at the Neches River bridge, near the Angelina County line.

Moore noticed a smell of marijuana, and after finding the suspect had no current identification, restrained McAnuff and called for a K-9 unit.

A search of the Mercedes found several bags of marijuana weighing 4 pounds 13 ounces; 24 grams of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine; and 42 grams of THC edibles, all concealed under the floor of the trunk of the vehicle.

McAnuff was booked into the TCSO jail on charges of no driver’s license, a misdemeanor; possession of marijuana of more than 4 ounces but less than 5 pounds, a state jail felony; possession of a controlled substance of more than 4 grams but less than 400 grams, a second-degree felony; and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, a first-degree felony.
