NEW WAVERLY — The first of the Lady Trojan’s 10 district games was played on Friday night and Coldspring set the momentum for the entire season by taking three sets from the New Waverly Lady Bulldogs.
Set 1 was in the books with a score of 25-12, followed by a score of 25-15 and the third was 25-13.
The first set was actually the closest set at the start as the Lady Trojans managed to regroup and take control of the game.
Head Coach Dwain Anderson said, “We worked this week and ways to control the speed of the game and put it in our favor.”
Ella Phillips, senior middle blocker said, “I am very proud of how we played tonight, we all did our part, and it showed.”
Tess Phillips said, “It was a team effort that made the difference. We worked hard this week and controlling the tempo of the game, and it worked in our favor.”
Ella Phillips 14 kills 2 solo blocks and 8 block assists; Ashlynn Holley had 13 kills, 3 solo blocks and 4 block assists, and 3 aces; and Cali Crowder had 27 assists and 2 aces.
Shepherd
The Lady Pirates hosted Liberty on Sept. 24 and came away with three losses.
Head Coach Ashley Brockner said Shepherd came out fired up the first set with Callie Dean leading the offense with 6 kills in set 1. Liberty won the set 27-25 and took over the game to take the match.
The Lady Pirates were led by Callie Dean with 8 total kills, and Jayla Fisher, Abbey Anderson, and Addison Kowis adding to the total with 2 each. The back row held up with Chloe Fuller having 14 digs, Nevaeh Murphy (11), Abbey Anderson and Jazilyn Richardson (9 each).
Brockner said that on Friday night they traveled to Hamshire-Fannett and fell in 3 sets. Chloe Fuller continues to lead defense with 19 digs. Maci Wilson and Nevaeh Murphy right behind her with 10 digs each. Callie Dean had 7 scored points between aces, and kills.
