COLDSPRING — The treys fell, and so did the Hardin Hornets, as the Trojans took a 77-64 win over Hardin on Friday.

Coldspring took an early lead and kept the Hornets at bay behind the long-distance buckets by Cam Shaw-Rucker. The win gave the Trojans second place in district.

Luke Monroe said the 3-point shots came at will all night long.

Coach Greg Devers said the Trojans still have another game, but with a three-game lead over Crockett, the second-place win is a done deal.

Shaw-Rucker made a statement by hitting 34 points during the game.

He was followed by Luke Monroe and Chris Harden, each with 12 points.

On Feb. 8, the New Waverly Bulldogs topped the Trojans 61-47.

While the Bulldogs were stunned by the Trojans during the first half, the difference in the game was the third quarter. The Trojans came out cold and it was not until the fourth quarter that the Trojans managed to start hitting the bucket.

Shaw-Rucker and Monroe had 15 points apiece on the night.

 Lady Trojans

The New Waverly Lady Bulldogs ended the Lady Trojans’ season on Feb. 8 with a 79-38 loss.

The Lady Trojans could only muster 10 points during the first quarter and finally got going with 11 during the second quarter. They only put up 17 points during the entire second half. They did not give up, as they kept shooting until the last buzzer sounded.

Bri Shaw-Rucker had 17 points for the Lady Trojans.
