It is officially spring. Everything is coming back to life and action including our own area organizations.
Welcome to new member to Coldspring Chamber of Commerce, Alabama-Coushatta Tribe. You probably know that the Naskila Casino owned by the tribe is located on their reservation outside Livingston? But did you know that they have a wonderful 26-acre camping site complete with RV sites, luxury tent sites and a variety of cabins to accommodate any number of people?
This is a perfect place for a weekend getaway or longer. Located on Lake Tombigbee, the reservation covers 1,200 acres and is the oldest in our state.
The tribe is self-governing with its chief, own law enforcement, health and human services and numbers 1,300 members, half of whom live on the reservation. To know more, go to www.alabama-coushatta.com.
•The San Jacinto County Democratic Party met this week to discuss the upcoming Wine Down fundraiser and to plan for the redecorating of the new office.
The “Time Down” is on April 29 from 4.30-7.30 p.m. at 22409 Augusta Place in Huntsville. Guest speakers will be Gilberto Hinojosa, the Texas Party Chair, and Dr. Carroll G. Robinson, President of Texas Coalition of Black Democrats.

They are also on Facebook. The office will open after painting and carpet are installed. The fiber optic work was just completed.
•Texas Glam Girlz celebrated their grand re-opening this week. Misty Slawson, the owner of this combination dry cleaners, tanning booth and boutique has made a great job of remodeling the business in the location she moved to at 11231 Highway 150 in Shepherd. This is in the strip across from the Agri-Tex building and next to Blessed Assurance.
She is adding another tanning booth and will extend the boutique area. The latter has clothes from babies to women’s 2XL. Jewelry, hair ornaments and more make a great display inside the store. Ask Misty about custom shirts.
The tanning booth offers two methods, stand up and lay down setups. The cost is $40 a month, which covers treatment every day. Opening hours are Monday- Friday 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. and 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. on Saturday. Call (334) 429-0545.
•Shepherd Library held two events this week sponsored by Shepherd Super Center. First was Show and Tell where children and their parents came to show off their special thing, a toy or game. I was asked to be a part of the gathering, so I took a family heirloom my great grandfather brought back from India when he was in the British Army.
Director Terri McIntyre showed the group where India and England were on the globe and we talked about how he got home by ship, since there weren’t any planes then in the late 1800s.
The next event was on Friday, a Lego competition judged by some high-school students, and they had a difficult job. All of the children made colorful, interesting and very original scenes. Futuristic cities, some appeared to be under siege. There was a hotel with a swimming pool and a doggie daycare, which was one of the winners.
Everyone received something for taking part and the two winners were very happy with their prizes. Look out for the Shepherd Library and their Easter Egg-Travaganza on March 31 from 1-4 p.m. The Easter Bunny will be there for photo ops, as well as games and fun for everyone.
