Council sidesteps VFD issue

POINT BLANK — Both sides of a disagreement at the Point Blank VFD have approached the Point Blank City Council, which in turn has issued a statement that it does not have a position.
At its regular meeting on Dec. 12, council members heard from the PBVFD leadership about the dismissal of several firefighters and other complaints that have been levied against VFD.
The VFD told the council it has proceeded as it always has since its inception.
Among the issues claimed by former members of the VFD, the chief and assistant chief met privately to amend the group’s bylaws, and when existing VFD volunteers voiced objections, they were let go or demoted.
One of the firefighters had planned to run for chief in an upcoming election but was fired within hours of his announcement. According to the new bylaws, he is now ineligible for the election.
Additionally, the ex-firefighters say they have been reprimanded for arriving at emergency sites ahead of EMS crews, which violates PBVFD procedure as per a verbal order.
The firefighters have taken up their case with the Emergency Services District and have been seeking to win public opinion as well.
The city took no action about the disagreement and issued a statement that the council is aware that there are disputes and issues within the PBVFD and, as yet, has not taken a unified position.
The council, through the statement, hopes to assure the Community, ESD, and the PBVFD that if the City feels the need to intervene, it will issue concerns directly to ESD or the PBVFD.
The city has not involved itself in any other investigative route, demand of action, or informational request. Such actions are not issued by the City, and do not represent the City of Point Blank, according to the statement
In other business, the council:
•accepted the latest audit, which was in line. The council was given suggestions to put an asset policy in place, and to capitalize street repairs.

· 1 years agoThese people who are complaining about Loretta or the fire dept need to get their facts straight.Loretta is of high integrity and would be an an asset to any Dept. I am sure the city would weigh.in if there were a problem that was not fabricated.

· 1 years agoAs an individual present at the city council meeting i can tell that one of the city council members is the one leading this collation against the vfd and all this is false information. Maybe y’all should call the vfd for the facts instead of letting individuals play the victim.

· 1 years agoLoretta is right, some false info- firefighters not "let go" for objecting to bylaws & put on probation after announcing running for Chief. 7 FFs were fired for appealing to ESD. 19 Churches/POAs then petitioned ESD for VFD to have a Board of Directors. Good for community & FFs.

· 1 years ago@Gary Wulf That is the false info, the firefighters were let go for THEIR actions of disobeying rules and regulations. Not for appealing and not for running for chief but for THEIR own actions. I don’t think you want people to know how you left individuals inside burning homes, do you??

· 1 years ago@Loretta, so are you saying anybody can go to PBVFD and ask about this situation and get answers? Several upstanding citizens and HOA’s have requested information from PBVFD and have been DENIED any answers. My question now is, what are they trying to hide?

· 1 years agoLoretta, you previously stated you are not a part of the FD, how would you know such “inner workings”? Also, the community should really watch out doing business with you and your husbands illegitimate company RL Custom Design. Would hate for you to steal from anyone else!

I am not a part of the vfd so who ever this coward is can keep deflecting from the lies and rumors that these individuals have started towards the vfd. Because that’s all you are trying to do is take the spotlight off of your wrong doing.

· 1 years agoSeveral HOA's have requested to have visibility to the books of the PBVFD to understand where their donated funds have gone. To date all requests to see the financial books (which is a requirement as a non profit organization) 501(C)3 have been refused.
