EarthDayEvent

Over 100 people attended the 2nd annual Earth Day fundraiser to benefit Polk County Recycling & Beautification (PCRB) Saturday. Held at Tempe Creek Vineyard and Farms, $11,000 was raised to fund recycling and beautification efforts. PCRB is a nonprofit organization that has partnered with Polk County to provide a reliable recycling service for the residents of East Texas, sustained by grants, donations and the sale of recyclable materials. Shown here are representatives of the IAH Secure Adult Detention Facility, operated by Management & Training Corporation. IAH began a recycling program in January of this year, delivering its first load of recyclable material – a total of 333 pounds – to the Polk County Recycle Center on March 3. Located at 10311 Hwy. 146 in Livingston at the intersection of Hwy. 146 and FM 2665, the recycle center has diverted 140,000 pounds of material from the Polk County Landfill during the 18 months it has been open. To learn more about PCRB and the recycle center, or to become a volunteer or make a donation, visit the website at pcrbtexas.org.
