Onalaska logoThe City of Onalaska is hoping to receive some grants in the coming year. During its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, the Onalaska City Council will consider authorizing the city administrator to apply with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s recreation grants branch for a recreation trails grant.

Additionally, Council will consider authorizing the chief of police to apply with the Texas Governor’s Criminal Justice Division for a body-worn camera grant, a rifle-resistant body armor grant and any other grants that promote public safety, reduce crime and improve the criminal justice system.

Council will also consider action on an ordinance ordering the city’s general election on May 6.

In personnel matters, Council will accept the resignation of Captain Mark Dubose in good standing and authorize him to serve as a reserve police captain. In related activity, Council will review and consider approval of the appointment of a full-time police officer (to be determined) with the standard six-month probationary period.

Council will present the Christmas decorating awards, fireman of the year award, most calls award and citizen of the year award.

Other items on the agenda include presentation of the departmental reports and approval of the minutes, vouchers and financial reports.
