Two dead after shooting at house party
Two are dead after a shooting at an off-campus party in Huntsville near Sam Houston State University early Saturday morning.
Huntsville Police Department officers responded to a shooting at a large house party near 19th Street and Avenue O around 12:38 a.m.
Upon arrival, multiple victims were located, and life-saving efforts immediately began. According to Huntsville Police, four victims were located at the scene, and all were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
One of the victims succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital Saturday morning. He is identified as James Jones, 18, of Huntsville. The other three victims were listed in critical condition.
A second victim, Cruz Garcia, 18, of Livingston, died Sunday morning at Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston from his injuries sustained in the shooting.
Huntsville Police Department Detectives arrested two men on charges related to the shooting, both from Livingston. Joe Allen Lewis, 22, and Lynn Johnson, 19, were taken into custody at the Huntsville Police Department Saturday afternoon.
Lewis was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. Johnson was charged with assault, a Class A misdemeanor. Deputies anticipate pursuing further charges as the investigation continues, according to a press release from the Huntsville Police Department. Johnson has a bond set at $50,000, while Lewis is held on a $250,000 bond.
Lewis and Johnson are both graduates of Livingston High School. Lewis was part of the class of 2020, while Johnson graduated in May.
