Charles Miller

Charles Eugene “Gene” Miller, 97, of Colmesneil, passed away Friday, June 28, 2024 at his residence.

Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 5, 2024 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Woodville, Texas with Branch President Milton Odom officiating. Burial will follow at Mt Hope Cemetery in Chester with U.S. Navy Military Honors. Serving as Pallbearers will be Bryce Bushman, Adam Miller, Jared Miller, Jonathan Miller, Larry West and Kaleb Smith. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Carter Riley and Edgar Riley.

Gene was born May 24, 1927 to Ira Leon Miller and Ella Dill Miller in Houston, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Colmesneil. Gene was an Honorably Discharged US Navy WWII veteran where he piloted landing craft on five landings in the Philippines and one in Japan. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where he had served as the Branch President in Woodville in the past. After 35 years of service, he retired as a Foreman with Houston Lighting and Power. He was a loving husband and father and a Great grandfather. Gene loved all his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cross stitching, woodworking, riding his tractor and spending time with his dog Tucker.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Ellen Miller; his daughter, Trudy Jennings and husband Jack; daughter-in-law, Sarah Miller and two great grandchildren, Rebecca Reynolds and Charles Jennings.

He is survived by sons, Michael Miller of Sealy, Texas and Stephen Miller and wife, Reta of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of other family and friends.

Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville.
