Jo Ann Parrish, 83, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024, in Livingston, Texas. She was born on September 10, 1940 in Camden, Texas to parents, Joseph (Joe) Vanek and Sophia (Sophie) Mae Lamb Vanek. Jo Ann grew up in Barnum, Texas and attended school in Chester, Texas, graduating in 1958. Jo Ann was a member of First Methodist Church Livingston, Texas.

She attended nursing school in Lufkin, Texas and received her LVN license. She was an OBGYN Nurse, Home Health Care Nurse and retired as an Industrial Nurse with International Paper Corp. in Corrigan, Texas.

Jo Ann learned to sew in high school and continued her love of sewing throughout her life making clothing, quilts and wall hangings. She was a member of the Livingston Piecemakers Quilt Guild and Moscow Sewing Club. She enjoyed getting together with her Bunco Group as well as traveling with her Ya-Ya Sisters. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. It was through these activities that she made lifelong friends.

She and a group of ladies in the Corrigan Community were instrumental in starting a girl scout troop in Corrigan in the 1970s as an outlet for young girls.

She had a passion for travel and along with her husband they drove across the United States, Alaska and Canada marveling in God’s beauty in each of these natural landscapes enriching their lives and memories.

Jo Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed a 48-year marriage with her husband, Boyce, in Leggett, Texas. She leaves behind a loving family: her husband, Boyce Parrish; 3 daughters, Connie (Hundley) DuVall of Cedar Park, Texas; Alicia Walston of Leggett, Jo Ann Parrish Visitation Friday

Texas; and Charlotte Cummings of Livingston, Texas; son, Joseph Nixon of Leggett, Texas; granddaughter, Megan Swander of Livingston, Texas; and grandsons, Joshua Sackberger of Leggett, Texas, Eric Cummings and wife Rayne of Lindale, Texas and Alex Hundley of Austin, Texas. Her legacy continues to live on through her five great-grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins and many friends who cherished her love and presence.

Jo Ann’s journey on earth may have ended, but we know we will see her again in the heavenly kingdom.

Visitation will be at Cochran Funeral Home on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 5-7 p.m. Services will be held at the First Methodist Church in Livingston, Texas, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2024. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Chester, Texas.
